just lost 1st and 2nd gear

had the car parked, with no problems so far. when i started her up, i thought i heard some beeping, but wasnt sure since the radio was on so i ignored it. tried to put it into 1st and nothing was there. same thing for 2nd. 3/4/5 were all there, so i limped home in 3rd. after i got home i tried 1st again, it refuses to engage and only grinds.

any ideas what happened? and am i looking at a new tranny?

Under the hood. Also known as shifter bushings, it's kind of under/behind the battery.

this happened to me. I had 3-4-5 and reverse no first or second. basically what happened to me was not a huge deal. before you go into the dealer, especially if your modded, check the linkage under the hood. the battery needs to come out to get a good look at it, but you will see it clear as day on top of the transmission. also remove the interior center console and check the linkage cables that attatch the the shifter. in my case the dowel that holds the the shift for in place undid it self. it limped home no problem without griding but when I tried to put it in the 1-2 while the motor was spinning it started and it jammed up essentially losing all gears. the good news is that it was an easy fix. dropped the car off sunday night and had the car tuesday.
p.s. not sure if I described the problem 100% correctly BUT it was a dowel of some sort that backed it self off eseentially disengaging 1-2 gears. here is some more info from a thread i started a while back
good luck
