I'm faster than a jet!!

During my two day ban, I had to find something else to do to occupy my time. I decided I wanted see how my car compared to a plane in terms of acceleration.

So figuring its one of the latest and greatests from out fine military, I chose the F-18A Hornet. After a little digging, I found out it accelerates from 460 knots to 920 knots in a little under 2 minutes.

My car accelerates from 40MPH to 140MPH in about 7.5 seconds.

Doing some basic math, here's what I came up with.....

My car has an acceleration rate of 19.5 ft/s/s

The F-18A has an acceleration rate somewhere in the 7 to 12 ft/s/s range since I couldn't find it's "true" acceleration rate.

So there you go....I'M FASTER THAN A JET! YEA, THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID IT!

Reminds me of a video I saw a while back involving a Porshe, a bike, and a jet. They all took off at the same time and the bike had the lead till over 100 mph. The Porshe took the lead after that and shortly after that, the jet blew the wheels off of the Porshe and the bike. So there you go, maybe your car is faster when accelerating from 40 to 140 mph but then again, I'm pretty sure a moped is quicker than our car going from 0 to 5 mph.

Damn that's crazy... would g-forces be directly proportional to acceleration?

So you see more G's in a 9 sec car on acceleration than a hornet?

Yes it is. One G-force is an acceleration rate of 32.2ft/s/s or 9.8m/s/s

Not to burst your bubble, but you do realize you are comparing the acceleration rates at a speed your car is not aerodynamically capable of.

Your acceleration rate is negative from 460 to 920 knots.

I wonder what the acceleration rate from 0 mph-180mph of the f-18 is.

Very cool info Slorice. Too bad you can't line it up with a jet on a runway and get a video.

Oh, and evidently you can't say "I like sushi" or you get an infraction.

My RS runs 5.5 60-130 using the drift box to measure.. I only did it 2x.. I think i could get it lower though..
