4G63 engine model codes..

I've just discovered from another thread that my TME's turbo is actually a turbo from an Evo 6 GSR, not a Tommi like I was told when I bought the car. Now i'm wondering whether the engine in the car is really a tommi or just your ordinary evo 6 GSR engine.

Like Honda's (B16A, B18C, B20B, H22A, etc..) I've noticed that the 4G63 family of engines also have their own codes relating to the car they were in (Evo, Galant VR4, etc)

Can someone tell me what the engine code should look like for an Evo 4-6 GSR, Evo 6 RS, and Evo 6 TME? Help would be greatly appreciated - thanks

I'm not that familiar with all the various options but from what I remember, the TME is called the 6.5 due to some updates (obviously). I'd expect them to be in the areas of the turbo and ECU. I don't know how much different the actual motor may be. I don't think they really have engine code designations different for the motor itself. They have chassis codes, etc so I suspect them simply call an EVO 5 motor what it is, a 4G63 from E5. <shrug> You may want to check MLR.

Hi,

There's an article about Lancer EVOs on the www.lancer-evo.net website, which talks about the TME and the related updates.

http://www.lancer-evo.net/manuals/misc/buyers.pdf

From the article, depending on whether you have the GSR TME or the RS TME the turbo would be different. The GSR had the uprated turbo as standard, while for the RS it was an option. There were also other options related to suspension, wheels, interior, and paint.

Hope this information is helpful. TME Evos are awesome.

Cheers.

turbopanda,

Sorry for being off topic, but do you mind to share any web pages that talks about the difference between Honda engines (I assume it's something like B16A1 vs B16A2, etc).

I think the earlier version of Galant's 4G63 got the word 'Cyclone' on it, and that one should have less hp than Evo's 4G63. However I'm not aware if there's any code to verify the version of turbo installed...

Good luck!
