Tranny Problem!
Well about 3 weeks ago i posted a terrible whinning grinding sound during acceleration and decelaration and even in nuetral while rolling well it was said for the transfer case to have gone bad so my dealer went ahead and swaped it...they also changed my tranny fluid too.....about a week (400 miles) later i had the same old problem again but worse.....now the noise was louder and the tranny grinds.....this gets louder as the car is driven for long period of time usually like a hour or 2..........took back again to the dealer........they thought it was the oil breaking down............after a quick check up the oil was fine and the new transfer case was fine also..(noise and grinding is still there).....the advisor said its not a normal sound its even very excesive than the normal whine and grind.....well to make this short they said its very possible for a bearing or several bearings to be bad in the tranny.....now i have to wait till monday for the dictrict rep to come down to take a look at it........they might change the bearings but they said it might need a tranny swap instead due to all the problems these trannys are giving now....i dont understand how a new car has these problems...like i said before its not even modified.....i dont know what to do im soo diapointed with the reliability of this car....with only 5,000 miles....
anyways when the district rep gives the ok i still have to wait till all the parts or tranny to get in to do this work........can my car be damaged just from regular driving with a bad bearing..? what would they probably do in this case a swap or bearing replacement on my tranny ......im a little paranoid with all these issue's about mitsu not honoring there warranty... and all the problems other evo owners have experienced with the dealer........I really dont know what to do.....i love my car i just want it fixed so i dont have to lose time and valuable work hours taking my car to the dealer all the time.........well you guys can add me to the list of tranny problems

Damn, that sucks bro. They SHOULD give you an OK for a new tranny. I mean, they're not gonna stick the car back at you and ask you to pay close to 1/3 of the car's value to get a whole new tranny. Look on the bright side. You're getting a whole new tranny at 5K miles. So think about all those grinds and slips that you've done to the car and erase them. They're all gone! But I don't think the grindings and weird noises should affect the car anywhere other than the tranny. So if they swap it, it should work fine. UNLESS it isn't your tranny that's the problem.. then it gets complicated... Good luck.

dont mean to hijack you post, but, i've seen many ppl with tranny problems. i dont understand, is it the design that has gone wrong, or just random cars? like some cars would get some defective trannies and some dont.
i am considering about getting the evo8, but the mitsu's warranty problem is really bothering. and the tranny is "weak"...

I think some of the problems maybe in the new design for the tranny .....it looks like a beefed up galant tranny to tell you the truth well thats what the tech said at the dealer........i think at changing the design from the jdm evo screwed us all.......plus mitsu has a terrible leak in there system for defective parts..........i dont know what to do....and with all these tranny issues on these evos plus my evo already had a incorrect part changed doesnt help me getting this work done any quicker.....now i have to wait for the district rep to fly down and look at my car......I purchased this car to enjoy it.....not as a car to get to work and back and not as transportation **** thats y i have my ****ty escort and ranger

but anyways i bought this car because im a enthusiast and also for the great ride it is ...im sorry to say but mitsu has let me down...i left my 2001 lightning because of the terrible service ford had and reliability ....... i really wasnt expecting to have this same issue again with my evo......im just disapointed i guess

What can cause a tranny bearing to go bad on a brand new car???
Mitsu is having some terrible quality problems with these new evos i hope they fix these problems soon.....alot of owners arent too happy including this one....

That tech has hit his head or is smoking too much USDM Mitsubishi parts bin ideas. It is NOT a beefed up Galant tranny at all. Its the same tranny that is mated to the 4G63 in the Evo VII overseas. AFAIK, the transmission is pretty strong. Clutch problems seem to be commonplace here in the US, but transmission problems are few and far between.
Well heres the update....................The rep didnt show up today he called and said he wont be in till the 15th(next monday)....so my dealer called me to pick up my car and to bring it back next monday so the district rep can see it....mind you i live one hour away of the dealer and this is all during my work hours....im not too happy about this.....
....so im still driving with this whinning sound.....the only good thing i got out of it was that the dealer did my clutch upgrade..(ss clutch line)...im a little pissed right now....
....................hey by the way my buddy stripped his down pipe screws..yeah u know the 2 with the springs is there any other type of screw that he can use ....does it have to be the one with the spring......i need to feed back on this so then maybe he can get a diffrent screw.

I have the exact problem! Noticed it at 1800miles. Now car has 6500 miles. Service manager assured me that the sound was normal. I've written a complain letter to Mitsu but they have yet replied.

yeah but mind whines on nuetral while rolling like very loud i can blast the radio and u still hear it drown out the radio......it sounds like a cat screaming under my car.............i can be at 80 put in neautral and let it roll till stop and it will whine all the way down....i dont wanna drive her caus ei get a headache from the sound...yeah its pretty bad
things cant get any worse now when i drive normally im starting to smell clutch burn.....could this be, cause of the clutch line ?????also the tech adjusted the clutch pedal .the day he installed the line.....there doesnt seem like hardly any freeplay.......could this be a cause i dont know whats going on here...i just had my clutch slip on second for the first time today it wasnt pretty..and it smelled like ***......i hope they warranty my clutch when they fix my tranny ....im going to bring this up to the district rep....im mean come on man 5,000 miles on a stock car thats a weekend drivier...mostly high way driving...(going to south beach

i been having the same whinning noise too for about 3 or 4 weeks now, my stock clutch went out so I put in a RMR clutch disc, but as soon as we did that the tranny started to make noise and the car hasnt been drove hard since the clutch change, we changed all the oil in the car last night, tranny, transfer case, and the engine oil, the tranny oil looked perfect, just like the stuff that was put in it a month ago, but the transfer case oil had a bunch of metal shavings in it, so i feel that the problem is comming from there, my only problem is i know the dealer is gonna give me a bunch of crap about all the stuff i have done to my car now, but on the other hand there is a guy with another evo who hasnt done nothing to the tranny and his car is making the noise too and we both got our evo from the same dealer, my car only has 5k miles on it, no matter how hard it has been driven, the tranny shouldnt be messing up already
