I use redline and I have noticed a slight decrease in notchiness, but the Evo gearbox is pretty notchy until the fluid is heated. Once that happens my gearbox is slick as ****. Redline or AMSoil are the two best from what I have read. I will be switching to all AMSoil products for next season to see if it lives up to the hype.

Amsoil, period.
I'm using Amsoil fluids throughout my car and I must say it has lived up to and beyond the hype. Everything "feels" awesome. From the engine to the transmission, I feel the car performing at the highest level with the added security of knowing that all the components are fully protected as well.
Zero issues.

yea it is just the cold man! that's our tranny's in the cold. My evo 8 does it as well. If you want to change your tranny fluid I would go with BG Syncroshift II for tranny fluid and Diaqueen for XCase and Differential!! No issues with those.....
I have switched hundreds of EVOm Members over to AMSOIL MTG with great results.
For under $40.00, it is well worth it.. Especially if you compare it to the Cost of OEM Fluids
