Fp Red

I was told not to buy this turbo because the turbo spins too fast for the housing and it will eventually blow (serious). Any truth behind this?

I'm not too sure who would have said that, but how far you turn the boost up determines the shaft speed of a turbo. The housing is exactly that, simply a housing. We've pushed this turbo to "Infinity and beyond" and only "Woody" would say something like that. It sounds like whoever told you that is either biased, or uninformed. This turbo has seen hard use at 35+psi and we never had 1 single failure, period.

The only thing I can think of is that some people have had boost creep at lower boost levels but you'll have to search to find out more info.

I still have it and it's my own personal favorite turbo. I took the RED off when we got a new GT3586HTA from FP to test. I'll put the FP_RED up against any turbo in it's class. If you even check the ET's and MPH's, you see that it even competes and beats many of the 35ish turbo'd cars. The RED as well as ANY turbo just needs to be run within it's engineered guidelines. Shaftspeed being one of those.

SO what would you recommend if you can't control your boost even with a manuel boost controller and every supporting mods to make this turbo works fail. I have that problem and can't even tune my car.

From what I've read about the CBRD BBK turbos someone was having boost creep problems at lower rpms. So CBRD had him port his exhaust manifold and that did the job.

I have several customers on the RED now, no problems...fantastic turbo and like Tom said, at full tilt with some great supporting mods like on their own it'll flat out embarrass quite a few 35R and bigger turbo cars.
