rear diff oil change= huge mess/picts

I changed my rear diff today and was my first time doing this. I really didn't have the right tool's but I did it.

I push the car off the ramps and the diff dumped the rest of the oil $HIT!!!

this is where I knocked over the damn oil

Man I HATE ramps. I tried them twice and after my car went over the edge, I said never again. They are hard as hell to use my yourself and they don't look all that safe. Decided to buy a jack and jackstands and get it over with. Good investment. I'm not looking forward to doing this. Just got my car 2 weeks ago and it's at 27K miles, so I'll get to do this in the middle on winter Maybe I'll wait another month if there's a ton of snow.

If your car is still on stock suspension, you can do the rear diff fluid change with the car on the ground. No need to use ramps, etc.

My car is lowered quite a bit (not slammed, but maybe 1" of space between fenders and tires) and I had no trouble getting under the rear diff.

it uses the same fluid as the transfer case but it is not the same thing. The transfercase is at the front of the car connected to the transmission.

Yes you should. An AWD transmission transfers power to a transfers case to get power to the rear wheels as well. A real diff is what will give power to the different wheels (so it's in the middle of the rear wheels). I don't know what an evo has but there's different types of differentials. Some clutch based and other are gear based. It's normally just gives different amount of torque to different wheels based on different driving conditions. Open diff = 1WD which is in most cards and limited slip = true 2WD.

what other fluids are there?
Oil, transmission fluid, front diff, rear diff, transfer case, and?
I do oil and transmission fluid myself. How hard is it to change front diff, rear diff, and transfer case?
Getting so close to get home and I'm afraid to see my evo. Too much work to do.
Fluid change, full detail, parts install, rotation, alignment, etc......
