no point in changing your UICP if you are keeping the stock battery, at least from a performance standpoint. just upgrade to t-bolt clamps

The main reason the upper intercooler pipe is replaced is due to the stock clamps not holding, but also the stock rubber hose expands and contracts. This can sometimes effect throttle response, depending on how old the hose is, how much the hose is expanding etc. Most of the time the expanding and contracting leads to the rubber tube blowing off.

The upper pipe is not for a performance gain, but more of a reliability upgrade.

Thanks!

Michael

The primary reason for me to get a short route uicp was to move the uicp away from the hot a$$ upper radiator hose……I just had my air run through my fmic, why do I want to warm up the air again...my battery died recently, so i bought the ams set-up which is very nice & fit perfectly

I wanted to buy a short route uicp, but since I am running a crummy power reducing weapon-r i.m. , I figured I would most likely have to modify the uicp I buy anyway…..

Damn, so I got to looking @ the oem uicp & thought I can make a short route pipe for very little, so I decided to make myself a budget short route uicp…

I took the bottom portion of the uicp & cut it here:

I then found a piece of 2.5” aluminum tubing, 19” long. I proceeded to cut the bov portion out of the old uicp pipe & weld this onto the straight section:

or you can buy a piece from rre for $25-…..go in half with someone & you can make 2 short route set-ups for little cash…look near the bottom of the page for 2.5” straight tubing

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/mandrelbends.htm

I used a old fmic to licp/uicp coupling to connect the modified bottom uicp piece to the straight section.

I then took the oem uicp to tb union & cut that at an angle & remove the hump portion of the tube.

Did this make any more power……hell, I don’t know, as i couldnt find my exposed junction TC to put in my plenum to measure incoming airtemps.....but I do know the uicp has to be a hell of a lot cooler, not sitting ½” from a tube that has 180* f water running by it.

Here is the finished set-up

Let me show you how it turned out & then what I did / how it turned out…

I just rolled some beads & welded the stub…..i cant imagine a local shop charging more that $30- to weld the tube & roll some beads.

I don’t know if this will fit with a oem airbox… Have fun modding

hence my recommendation to get t-bolt clamps

changing the rubber hose would be good also, or you could just wrap the hose with equally spaced zip ties in order to minimize the expansion

absolutely awesome

do you have a pic of the UICP without the airbox there?
