Oil Filter

I bought a oil filter from my dealer. It didn't screw on correctly and it wasn't the same part number as the original one. When I took it back imagine my suprise when they told me that the part I was sold was the designated replacement part for the original part number. Needless to say I bought all of the original part number filters he had in stock until this gets sorted out. Any body else have this problem? Original part #MD356000 the replacement was MZ something.

Same thing happenened to me. The filters fit the same---look a little different on the inside. I bought a tool to remove the old filter--the one you put on the end of a ratchet extension--and it fits a little tight on the new filters. Put on the new filter last week--no problems so far?.

Just ask them for it, and they will have them in stock. Don't do your oil change without one!

I'll find out tonight when I do my oil change. I also got the "MZ" replacement part for the MD356000 filter I've used the last few times.

I had a hell of a time trying to find an aftermarket filter. The books, store computer, and the web sites were all wrong.

You have to use the 2003 Montero Filter and it's a bit taller.

I'm currently using the Mobil 1 M1-104. The outlander/montero v6 on the K&N site uses the HP-1004 which cross references to the Mobil 1 M1-104. The M1-104 when compared to the stock oem filter is about the same in terms of size.

I picked up some yesterday and sure enough the part has changed. The filter wrench i have just will barely work now as the outside diameter must be a smidge larger. The inside is different. It looks, unfortunately, cheaper quality than the MD356000. I asked the guy who I trust if it was the right part and he said yes they changed to that part number and filter. So I just put mine on and no fitment issues I will have to check real closely and make sure it does not leak. I am disappointed with the apparent reduction in quality though.

A little off topic.

I just did my first oil change, and the crush washer that I got from the dealership had two different sides to it. One side was flat, the other side had the inner half of the gasket recessed in. Which side faces the pan, and which side faces the plug?

The flat side goes against the face on the drain plug. The MZ part # is a crap filter. I talked to a service manager, and HE recommended I call around to local dealers and try to find one with the MD's in stock. I did, and bought 8 from a small dealership. It is a cost savings thing for , three part numbers are being combined to that one MZ filter. He agreed the MD is built like a high performance filter, but I only paid $5 each, versus $12-$13 for the Mobil1 or K&N, that are both smaller anyway! Call around and see if you can find some MD356000s, and stock up.

I have the same problem with the parts store books too. I realized that you have to use the Eclipse turbo oil filter # 14459. I like purolator pure one filter. It seems to keep the oil cleaner, or maybe its just me. The filter that the parts store book list for the Evo are much smaller in size.

Oem Oil filter Replacement

Hello All,

I just recently did my 1000 mile oil change. I'd figure it was smart to do so after the break in period. Getting rid of any bits of metal shavings from any internal engine components. It seems that some of evo owners are having a hard time finding oem filters or replacements. I have found a perfect OEM replacement from Bosch. The filter is not as fat as the Oem's however, it seems to be a better fit than the original filter. The filter Model # is #3310. I have had the filter on for 400 miles so far. Not a problem or leak. Any questions feel free to email me. Gerard
