Do u have an oil pressure gauge? If So check the connection where gaugle plugs in and replaces the stock one. If not maybe bad oil pressure. main bearings worn down but i hope not with you saying the motor was just rebuilt. BAd sending unit possibly if you didnt replace it...

Replace the switch first. As you oil gets hotter it thins out resulting in lower oil pressure. Put a gauge in or check it with a gauge to see where your oil pressure is at idle when hot..its likely within spec. If it was a bearing problem, it would be rattling and the light would stay on.

First person I'd talk to is your engine builder. Maybe they built the engine for use with a thicker oil.

^ What he said. Wider tolerances need thicker oil...

Did you have a new oil pump installed when you had your block built? Yea they are a bit expensive but it is cheap insurance considering the amount of cash and time you poured in to your Evo.

this happens alot to evos but i never found a good awnser to this same question. what i found mainly was that this culprit is usually a result of a malfunctioning oil pressure sensor located somewhere near the oil filter or the oil cooler i was told. i have not seen anything yet under there and my problem went away for now.....
i checked my oil levels and its fine. i dont c how the bearings would cause or relate to this intermittent problem. i would figure if it was the bearings causing a oil pressure issue it would stay on all the time not on and off on and off.

but if you know something regarding this please post there are lots of us out here sitting in the dark on this one.

I know this is a little in left field but, I drive a Dodge van when I'm working. When I was first given the van for a company rig I was told that there was something wrong with the oil pump. The boss said he's taken it to the mechanic but they can't find the problem and it's too difficult to put in a new pump. He had this theory that he had gunned it too hard a few times and damaged the engine somehow.

I thought, fine I'll just drive it till it breaks. What it does is whenever you let the idle go down too low the pressure gauge drops like a rock and brings the oil light on. If you rev up the engine a little it comes right back. He told me to put it in neutral if I was sitting at a light for very long to get the gauge up off of zero.

I drove it like that for a while and then one day I started leaking water. I told him and he put the van in the shop. They ended up replacing the water pump. The funny thing is when I got the van back it no longer had the oil pressure problem. It just disappeared.

I know this is a little irrelevant. I was wondering if anyone had a theory as to why replacing a water pump would fix an oil pressure problem?

Exactly what he's saying. Check your low oil pressure switch. I'm almost positive that the tab on it came loose. or is in the process of breaking off. The reason your oil light is going on/flickering is engine vibrations causing a bad contact. As soon as you give it some throttle and the motor smoothes out at higher rpm's it stops rattling. This is a notorious dsm problem as well.

the oil feed line inside the oil pan has a gasket that may be leaking. this would cause in unstable oil pressure. especially at idle since the RPM's would be low. Does your oil pressure fluctuate while holding it at a constant RPM? because if it does, it shouldnt.
