Clunky shifting solved by launching?
Clunky shifting solved by launching?
Every now and then it seems that the easier I drive the car, the less drivable it becomes. I've noticed that if I take it easy on the car for several days at a time, sometimes weeks, that the shifting will become clunky and harder to do. The clutch won't release all the way, and it sounds like air is in the cylinders.
Well, it never fails, when I launch the car from a dig, everything goes back to normal. Shifting returns to being smooth, clutch grabs like it's brand new, and the car turns into a rocket.
Does this sound normal?

Not when the service manual says to change that fluid at twice that number. Am I wrong?
Thanks for laughing, Kellieanne. Hope you enjoy being laughed at when someone makes a comment making fun of your lack of knowledge at something. I'm just trying to figure out what the problem is. Maybe everyone is right about us Evo owners.

Questions
The clutch wont engage (pedal up)? or won't disengage (pedal down)? Air.. in the slave cylinder or the engine cylinders?
Suggestion
Maybe you should bleed your clutch slave cylinder. Also maybe you should adjust your pedal. Make sure you can push back on your slave cylinder piston. If you can't push back on it then you have your clutch rod "out of window" and fluid is not being allowed from the reservoir to the slave cylinder.

Check your thoughts on waiting to change the clutch unless you want more expenses to pile up...Thats like saying my brakes arent working all the time they slip a little but gab well at other times, I know they are going out but I am going to wait. You end up replacing more then needed instead of just fixing the worn parts. The heat build up from slippage is causing it to be grabby, and will warp the pressure plate and fly wheel.. I know , I know, you were going to replace these anyway..
Its a little ironic, but in the USAF the F-16s we flew hard always stayed together, and had minor codes/issues. The ones we didn't had issues constantantly. I understand what you are talking about, but I'm not sure why it's like that.
problem is your clutch is not getting a work out.
when you launch you burn of the crap that's built up.
I dont really understand the technicals behind it, but its been a recommendation for a sticky clutch...

I wouldn't go 30K on any of the fluids in the car. That might be ok if the car is stock (how many ever are
) and driven by a little old lady, but when you're modded and you drive the car hard it can get torn up pretty quickly.
15K is about the max I'd go on the trans, I personally swap out my T-case and rear diff every other oil change, more often durring race season. They all hold so little fluid and the heat just does it's thing to em'.
Not saying you're wrong just don't see anything wrong with a little preventative maint.
