Question about idler pulley

Does anyone know how to get the idler pulley off? I can unbolt the bolt but its too long and hits the frame so i cant remove it. Do i have to unbolt the passenger side motor mount and possibly let the engine down a bit? I couldnt find any posts on here about anyone doing this. Anyone have any ideas?

You can try, but I'm not sure if you can get it down far enough without taking out the rear mount also. What are you taking it off for?

When I did my last TB change, or any TB change on an Evo/DSM, I always remove the motor mount. With the mount gone, you can jack the motor under the pan(I used a kitchen cutting board to evenly spread the weight) and position it to get the idler bolt out.

I'm doing it tonight actually. I'll probably take pictures.

If you're just taking the lower cover off you don't need to take the pulley completely off. But you do need to remove the mount and lower the motor as said above so you can get the bolt/pulley out far enough to get the cover out from behind it. I remember it seeming like I couldn't get the motor low enough to get the pulley out with just removing the one mount. I could be wrong though.

I am removing it because it has a nasty squeaky when i start it up in the morning. When it first started i took it to the dealership and they said it was the idler pulley. I havent tackled it yet but the would be awesome if Broxma could take some pictures.

I did take a few of the timing belt I did the other night. I'll post them in a few.

I removed the cam motor mount and lowered the engine a little. BUT when reinstalling, replace it with a slightly shorter bolt and it wont be an issue in the future.

I also have aquired the morning squeak/squeal on my Evo. I have replaced both the idler and the tensioner, still got it. Im now on replacing the belt this weekend. (shoulda done it first)

yea i replaced the belt and still have the squeak. I hope once i replace the pulley it will go away. Ive also heard it being the timing belt pulleys, i just got all the stuff i need for a timing belt replacement but i have 7000 more miles to go before i need one.

My serpentine belt squeak was solved by tightening the crank pulley bolts. They had backed out a little bit.

i didnt check the bolt but none of the pulleys were loose when i felt them so i assumed the bolts were tight. Ill recheck it when i go to replace my idler pulley
