If it is green then it's coolant. Check all of those hoses for a leak.

i was thinking head gasket but not a lot of heavy smoke is coming out of the exhaust. just normal co2 when idling...so i'm thinkin it's gotta be a busted hose somewhere

Yeah but would the busted hose be causing the backfiring? I wouldnt think so.

Check the water pump, I hit fuel cut on my way back to my apartment from a friends place and as soon as I pulled in the parking lot she began over heating.

Its backfiring because the car has no coolant in it, causing it to run very hot. If there is no coolant in there at all, its hard for the temp gauge to work right. You might need a head gasket now.

if it's the head gasket...are they hard to change yourself? I know you have to take the manifold off to do it however I still have my stock manifold on and it's never been taken off..Figured it would just be a pain in the *** however i know it's pretty straight forward. However car ramps are not gonna give me much room to work underneath if i have too

it does sound like over heating due to bad head gasket...

and to answer your question about swapping out gaskets. its a pretty in depth repair... and could be a lil overwhelming if your new to 4g63 platform

good luck man

you really should find someone who has done the job before, alot can go wrong if you don't do it correctly, could cost you more in the end....(if you wanna drive to ct i'll do it for you)

You will need to pull the head to replace a headgasket. You should consider replacing the head studs with stonger ones, like ARP. If it is in fact a headgasket that's wrong with your car. Make sure first.

If you cant diagnose the problem, I highly recommend NOT trying to fix the HG yourself. Take it to a reputable shop, get some L19s and a Mitsu HG and get it fixed right.
