vmrevo9, I had a similar sound that I dealt with on my car for about a year, then my timing belt tensioner let go and my car jumped timing (pistons hit the intake valves slightly)

I can't say for sure that's what was making the sound (tensioner pulley slowly going bad), but after I had my car fixed and put back together by Dan the man at BR, I don't have that sound anymore

p.s. I did not check out that thread that someone posted above...

Hey Muad,

thanks for the info i'll probably be checking the tensioners soon. i bought some belt conditioner and sprayed the inside of the timing belt on the cam gears, and as soon as i sprayed it the noise went away. i'm definitely keeping an eye and ear on it for sure.

well here is an update. i conditioned my timing belt. i had sprayed a little bit on the top of the belt while it was moving and i didnt noticed a difference. so i decided to spray a bit on the actual cam gears and the noise instantly went away. now the noise came back and it seems to be whens it's cold only. yesterday i had used the car to go to store and when i came back the noise was gone. i got some spray on the serpentine belt and now it whistles lol. so i plan on taking it off and inspecting the tensioner and cleaning the pulleys as well. i might as well change the serpentine belt while i'm there. in and all it might be the timing belt tensioner so i think i'm gonna start looking for a good shop and try to get it replaced soon.

My car does the exact same ****, I thought something was wrong. I came home on R&R from Iraq and the noise started 2 days before I had to come back. I thought it made the noise cause nobody uses my car. My family starts the car for me but I thought it started making the noise cause I was driving it again. I will see if it still makes the noise when I get back and start using it again.

THe noise also got louder for me when it was cold. Again, I'm not 100% it's the tensioner, but it seems since mine has been replaced the sound is gone.

I will add that I had Dan at BR put all of my stock pulleys and cam gears back on, as I had aftermarket before.

i was just looking at some timing belt kits and i dont know who to go with. i think i might as well up grade to a Kelvar belt and might as well change out all the pulleys and tensioners. do i need to replace the water/oil pumps as well?

Well, I had the Greddy Kevlar, and Dan said he personally runs OEM. So he took all my Greddy Kevlar belts off and put OEM belts back on. I trust his opinion

Mind you, he could have sold me the more expensive ones, and he didn't. Yet another reason I highly respect him.

hmm i think you and Muad are the first 8 owners that i have read of that may be having the same issue.

hopefully it's something simple but if not i guess its time to upgrade lol.

BTW stay safe in Iraq. I'm active in the AF.

I'd go with Muad's suggestions on this, take it very seriously, it could be the precursor to something very bad.
