Evo 8 Turbo with 20G Turbine

Has someone done that? Is that the same as an FP White Turbo. I was told that this can be done and it is about $695 for the upgrade on the 8 turbo the one with the small compressor housing, NOT the 9. Have someone tryied that in the past?

Assuming you mean compressor and not turbine, the FP white is a 9 based turbo. The older White Rabbit was an 8 based turbo, I believe it used the same comp. wheel as the current Green but with a stock TD05H turbine wheel. Neither is technically a "20g" though, they're proprietary billet compressor wheels that happen to be dimensionally similar to a 20g.

Yes, I meant 20G compressor wheel, so which would be better. White Rabit (Evo 8 based), Stock Evo 9 Turbo or a ported Stock Blades Evo 9 turbo. This is for an Evo 8 with bolts ons. TBE, Cams GSC S1, Intake, Fuel Pump, Stock Injectors.

omg welcome to 3 years ago!

BBK Lite or full, or fp red are the way to go now.

A standard 20g wheel will not work on an evo789, the scroll is backwards!

I am talking baout a backward scroll 20G blades. Anyway the upgrade is $695 an FP red is $1799. I am just trying to find out if it is worth the $695 or if I am better off with an Evo 9 turbo. This is for a DD no drag racing on my car.

From the sound of what you're looking for, I'd just pick up a stock IX turbo. They're like $400-500. You can sell your stock VIII turbo to offset the cost. Make sure you get the IX outlet pipe to go with it, you don't need an install kit, just bend your stock oil and coolant lines slightly. This way, you can always upgrade it to White/Green/Red/BBK spec later if you wanted more.

Of the three, 16G turbo options listed above, the stock IX turbo probably offers the best bang for the buck. Later, when you have the money, it can be upgraded to any of the current state of the art, IX based, bolt-on turbos(FP White, Green, Red, CBRD BBK-Lite, or CBRD BBK-Full).

i dont care for the 20G at all on the evo.... its laggy for what it is...

id go with a stock ix turbo instead... you could buy a used one for 500 bucks in good shape...

cb

of course we have our bbk options, but it doesnt sound like thats what you are looking for (they start at 1250)

Isn't the FP Green a compressor similar to a 20G on a stock turbo housing and a slighly bigger turbine (something like a TD06 )?

IIRC most 20g's tend to have a larger compressor housing than the 8 turbo's. Putting a 20g wheel in the small 8 housing would probably cause it to surge more than the stock 8's usually do.

I think the lag that CB mentioned on 20g's probably comes more from the td06 wheel that's normally found in them.

Any of the FP green/red or CBRD BBK would be a much better stock frame upgrade.
