Weird Clutch Problem???

I remember this happening rarley when i first got my my back in August but its starting to happen more often now. Its on the stock clutch. Sometimes when I'm driving, lets say in 3rd gear, and i give it some gas, the revs go all the way up without the clutch hooking up, but when i let off the gas and try again it hooks and the clutch holds. It happened to me twice in the last week, once on the hwy and again yesterday. I don't think the clutch is slipping yet because I drove my dads truck with a messed up clutch and it felt nothing like this. Since I had the car I only launched it twice and only once I could smell the clutch after the launch. Anyone know what the problem could be?

your clutch is slipping................... Time for a new one. The revs going up without the car accelerating is evidence of massive slippage.

If the clutch was going wouldn't it slip everytime I boost? This only happens sometimes, most of the time when I boost the clutch holds just fine.

most likely its in early stages and depends on the temp of clutch.

you need a clutch, OE clutch dont last long

By temperature I mean the temp the clutch disk and flywheel are getting to.

Outside temp wouldnt affect it. depends how you drive it and how the temp builds on the disk/flywheel

This is definitely signs of a clutch going. ACT is a very good replacement clutch - much recommended.

This only happens when you boost? The same thing happened to me a while ago. I would floor it or semi-floor it and the revs would just go all the way up and I wouldn't be moving. It turned out to be a loose IC pipe. This is pretty common if you don't re-tighten the clamps or up the boost. My friend kept blowing his intake side pipe off until he bought new clamps. It might be this if you really don't think it's the clutch and it only happens when boost. Also if your clutch is getting bad you would feel it from a stop. Does it catch at a higher RPM? Mine is getting changed soon and it doesn't really bite until 2K RPM. Check all your IC clamps and make sure they are all tightened down. Then you won't need to break the bank for a new clutch

if you blew an ic pipe of then you wouldn't be able to hit boost anywhere, seems his clutch is in the early stages of slipping. It will only get worse.

This is most certainly your clutch slipping. Mine's doing the same thing, and did the same thing last time it went out. And yes in a sense winter may have something to do with it as our cars make more power with cooler ambient temps, but don't expect it to last if it's slipping. Keep out of boost and it will last until you get it replaced

the fact that you may be making 10 more hp doesn't have anything to do with it, its how you drive the car. The reason its slipping in higher gear is that you're placing load on more resistance and the clutch can't hold it anymore due to lack of material on the disc. At lower gear it doesn't do that because you don't have as much resistance as in higher gear, but it will start to do the same after time.

My IC pipe clamp was loose and it only expanded enough to lose boost part of the time. It depended on how fast it boosted. He said it was only happening some of the time which was the case with me. I did ask if it only happens when he boosts to double check. It wouldn't hurt to check clamps regardless just to make sure everything is connected tightly. The two could feel pretty similar. Just gave him a different possibility.

If you blew a pipe the car wouldn't run at all. It would choke itself out on way too much fuel.

Your clutch is shot dude, time for a new one asap before it totally goes. Might as well man up and bend over, Evo clutches/installation isn't cheap.

Yeah thats true, when I blew mine off though, the car drove but any positive boost would make it act up obviously. Evo clutch jobs ain't cheap because they are not as easy to work on as dsms, but when you shop aroudn you can find deals.
