My car is acting super sweet and decided to make horrible grinding sounds when going into fifth gear. The only way I can get it to not make terrible sounds is by rpm matching and easing it into that particular gear. It grinds shifting fast, slow, high rpms, low rpms, the only way it doesn't grind is when I'm super careful and, uh, slip it in. The rest of the gears work just fine.

Question 1. Did my synchro die for that gear?

Question 2. How easy/expensive is that to fix.

i would take it to the dealership and have the synchros replaced under warranty

 

I'm gonna give that a shot. Hopefully it works out...

 

Syncro baby,,,, get a double syncro in there,,,, the 5 speed tranny is known for that, 5th is the last to get fluid because is higher than all the other gears, therfore the syncros in 5th starves oil.

get some AMSOIL MTG GL4 synthetic,,, it makes a day of difference in the shifting even when cold,,, its amazing i can garantee it
