Ned help asap, Banjo bolts from block to turbo
Ned help asap, Banjo bolts from block to turbo
I just replaced my turbo, and all went well. Torqued everything up to spec.
When i turned on my car, I had oil coming out of the bolt, that connects the oil line from the block, to the turbo. So i tightened the bolt up a little more, and, it was still leaking, although, less than before.
Ive used a brand new bolt from mitsubishi, aswell as two new gaskets. Im up to almost 20lbs of torque on the bolt, where mitusbishi say 12 +/- 2lbs.
Can anyone shed some light on this ?
Also, whats the easiest way to clean oil from the bottom on my engine bay, without having to remove the turbo.

Sounds like you broke the bolt, they are thin and will split easy on the opening. Might want to pull it and check it, I went through a few before I realized how easily it broke and they don't require much torque to break either.
I had a similar problem but it was with an aftermarket oil line. As for trying to clean the block, I would pull the manifold off while keeping everything else in place. You should be able to get to most if not all of the oil.
Most of the block is clean, the car is still smoking a little oil. So i may try to make it burn off slowly, as its not much left...i hope
As for the bolt, i stoped it leaking, but, had to torque it up a fairly large amount compared to what Mitsubishi say. It is almost at 30lbs, cant be 100% sure on the actual amount.
the bolt is not broken, its a brand new bolt, and, i took it out to check its condition after the first leak.
I cant believe nobody else has had this problem. I cant see what i have done wrong. the bolt I have is the correct one, as i picked it out from mitsubishis sheets personally at the spares department, and, it looks identical to the original bolt
Any other ideas ?
Seems good for the moment, not leaking when car is on choke. I just hope redline, and massive oil pressure wont cause a leak.

Usually its better to use the copper washers that were already on there and just replace the banjo bolt. Those bolts suck. I have been through about 4 of them and i even have a few extras because it takes 2-3 days to get parts from the dealer.
The best way IMO to clean your block/engine bay is to use brake cleaner. The stuff that is less hazardous/non flamable. and do it when the engine is cold. But dont get it near any electrical components. They make a different one for electrical components.

Interesting guys. Its good to see im not the only one with this problem.
Hopefully, it wont leak anymore, and ill keep a close eye on it. If it does leak, ill get some sealant in there then.
Wha sealant do you guys use for such a bolt in the engine bay ?
