Need advice on camshaft cylinder

Whats up guys. So let me start off by saying i f*&^#d up. I went with the stupid torque in the EVO 9 manual when torquing the exhaust camshaft position sensing cylinder. I tried torquing to the 98ft lbs that the manual incorrectly states, and i ended up stripping the bolt out before i reached that torque.

I just got the bolt out and was inspecting for damage. The camshaft itself looks good but the cylinder that the bolt holds down is a bit mushroomed in. My question for you guys, is the cylinder trash now or am i still able to use it? I already ordered a new bolt but would like to know if i need to order a new cylinder. Stupid mistake.

The manual states 16ft lbs +/- 3ft lbs. I am looking at the manual right now.

Can you post a picture of what you are talking about?

That's like cranking on the lug nuts! You gotta know that's crazy high for the tiny bolt.

I know the manual states it now but the manual that i have on CD says 98ft lbs. I thought it was wrong and looked at it like 5 times but thought " hey they can't possibly put the wrong torque in a repair manual" but boy was i wrong.

I'm looking at the bolt that holds #5 which is 98 ft-lbs, #1 shows 98 in-lbs. Either way my edition is showing what I posted for values earlier in the thread. Can you post a pic of the part you think is ruined? I can't picture the mushroom shape.

LOL i know exactly what inch lbs are i was referring to what exactly is he stating when he says thats in in lbs. Yes #5 that is held in by that bolt is what i am referring to. #1 holds the camshaft position sensor itself. I don't have any pictures now but inside of the cylinder there is another object. I don't really know whats its for but thats the part that got mushroomed. I figure all that does is give like a cushioning for that bolt so it doesn't sit completely on the cylinder.

I though you were talking about the sensor, that's what I get for skimming lol. Either way, you should know that torque in ftlbs isn't 5x torque in Nm, it's lower, always.
