Be careful when cleaning the throttle body

Hey guys,

Tried to clean the throttle body on the car with spray on solvent several days ago. What prompted this was a sticky throttle that didn't respond to the cable being lubed (the throttle plate was sticking).

Difficult at best (although only detaching one screw was nice).

After the cleaning, the idle speed was off. Had to adjust the basic idle speed (needless to say, a pain in the butt).

So, take the throttle body off or use a cleaning cloth to clean the plate if the throttle body is dirty and sticking. This should save you significant time.

Good luck.

Shawn

I had the Wynn's Fuel Treatment done and that was part of cleaning. Very highly recommended for those that haven't done it.

With evoscan you can set the SAS actuator and it helps when setting the idle, that is the way I set mine when I change the TB seals.

i think the TB needs a re-application of molybdenumnmn disulfide grease too lol. this might quell most sticking problems down the line. the OE grease was still there after 40K miles.

it this an integral step to finishing off the throttle body or does everyone just wipe it all off?

Seals should be changed when leaking which would be a 98% chance if over 30k, boosting 22+psi

Seals I recommend are Mil.Spec

Dumb question, but where do you apply this?
