Can you make an EVO RWD?

Hey...just curious because I've been wondering this for a while. I know motec makes a diff controller, but will that allow the EVO to be 100% RWD? I want to be able to have some fun spinning tires, but also be able to dyno with just the rear wheels. Is this possible? If not, any other way to make it RWD? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

Haha...well I know that. What I don't know is what they modified to allow it to do that.

like import junky said, yup, seen them out there drifting. think i saw an evo with an ls1 and rwd on youtube as well. not sure why you would want to do this to an evo tho. maybe get an sti and be able to send the majority of the power to the rear wheels? have a couple buddies who do this although it kinda defeats the purpose of shredding corners in AWD.

cool thought tho, if you do it make sure to let us know how and post some pics! gl man

Well...In a growing business with a 2wd dyno, I thought it would be kind of cool to tune the car using only RWD. I don't want to eliminate the AWD because that is why I bought the car, just simply want to know if possible, there is a way to switch on the fly between AWD and RWD. I love EVO's, but you have to admit that RWD can be lots of fun at times. Also, just for the fact of being different. You see a lot of high horse Evos, but few that are RWD.

Yeah Norris has one and the tranny alone cost him like 15k besides installing the engine in the opposite way. I think I saw it once in rhys millen or rmr motorsports web page where they had some sort of a adaptor for the tranny or transfer case that could make it rwd, but once it's rwd there's no going back with that kit

would be nice if we could change the percentage of the power around, to have 50/50 0-45and then after 45mph full RWD for better high speed accel. at the touch of a button.

you would think it would be as easy as an ECU tune to just transfer the power from the front wheels to the rear.

Interesting topic you brought up, but I can't imagine my Evo without AWD.

Oh man, I can't imagine my EVO without AWD either. The sole purpose I bought it over say a supra, was the ability to drive year round. Just would be really cool, and I've been looking into ways to be able to switch around the torque split. I know the JDM STI's and such have the ability to transfer most of the power to the rear...so there's got to be a way. I'm going to keep looking into it, but if anyone has any info or any places to look, please let me know.

actually the norris evo is not RWD, its switchable from AWD and RWD..

heres what its running transmission wise..

Holinger RD6-S 6 speed sequential transmission, Sfi approved thick wall custom drag bellhousing, ND weighted gear shift knob, ND triple plate clutch, Holinger digital gear indicator, Fully selectable split 4WD system, Skyline GTR transfer box, Skyline GTR modified front diff unit, Skyline GTR rear diff unit, Carbonetic carbon front and rear 1.5 way diffs, Custom driveshafts all round, custom front prop, custom rear prop, ND big rear wheel bearing modification.

but you gotta remember the engine in this car is mounted longitudinally

Sounds pretty serious...but a bit more work than I want to do. Haha...if that's what I would have to go through, I think I will just forget the whole idea. I will keep looking into it though.
