stock 8 motor whats the max power?

i have an 04 viii with nothin done to the motor internal wise, so im wondering whats the most power you can obtain safely with a stock block and head? my goal is 600 - 650 but that probably wont happen for a year or two and i just wanna know what i need to get.

I see your new and that's cool. This topic has had alot of action already. If you search "Stock block max power" or something of that sort the answer pops up a few times.

To answer your question, it's likely alot less than your projected goal so yes you'd have to put money in the motor.

Money in the motor is almost always well spent.

agreed 100 percent you can probably get away with for not to long before the main caps fail, before rod's and bearing's start to weaken.

~450whp is pretty much accepted as the upper limit on a stock block.

EVO motors are extremely well built. The real key to longevity is all in the tune. No knock = no ka-boom.

OP start with this thread. Check out the 500whp stock block club.

Build 500whp first. You may find you are quite happy at that level.

450-500whp is accepted on the stock block. Anything more than that will eventually or will blow, ha.

But like everyone says, if you don't got moneyz for that, don't even try to build it. Keep it stock and throw some basic bold ons, if so. Building a 600-650 horse-power car is just thousands and thousands of dollars.

I say 450-500 whp too...but a bunch of guys here in socal run stock blocks with a 35r and full supporting mods @28-30 psi on E-85 and make 500-550 whp ...
