I am running the Tanabe Ultra Medallion cause it sits just like the stock exhaust so it doesn't attract attention to begin with. It is also really stock sounding.

Tanabe and Cobb both have very quiet exhausts.

Apexi N1, very quiet compared to the N1 style exhausts. i also have the ECV in mine but never installed the cable since it's already so quiet.

Performance Peddler-Magnaflow Cheap!!!

I am using a Magnaflow #14249 which is basically a 3" inlet and 3" outlet and is a 5 x 8 oval measuring 18" for the body of the muffler. I am adding a tip to this muffler and using this to replace a Tanabe Concept G Blue muffler which I plan to cut off and sell....it's brand new and never installed yet. Check out Performance Peddler on line for amazing deals on Magnaflow Mufflers!!!!!!!!!!

If you want quiet then stop everything and listen to me. I have gone through Heaven and Hell looking for the most quietest setup for the Evo. I have wasted a lot of money buying and reselling different exhaust setups.

Here are your options in which will include full non tapering setups.

1. (Assuming your setup does not taper) To quiet your current exhaust setup you need to put a quality widebody muffler. Avoid magnaflow because most (but not all) are pretty loud for a really quiet exhaust seeker. Replace your current muffler with the Vibrant muffler or if you can find one, a stromung widebody muffler.

2. Buy Cobb Turbo back exhaust or just the catback and fit it with your donwpipe back setup.

3. Follow my thread and see if you want to shell out the cash for something I'm doing. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...3-exhaust.html

Would you mind testing something for us?

Knock on the magnaflow muffler body as if your knocking on a door. Does it make a slight hallowness feeling/sound or does it give that dense packed sensation with no hit of tinging metal sound?

What you will be doing is testing how well its packed. Its not a proven method but its what has worked for me. Stuffed packing sensation is a better chance of being a quieter muffler. (type of packing material used also plays an importance)

i'm really glad i went this route because my car is nice and quite on the highway and interstate and cruising around but when i go out to race it's louder than hell haha

plus it's a little sleeper affect when you see the stock muffler
would you happen to have a clip of this setup???

I just ordered the muffler and it should be here in a few days. I was just wondering about what you just said.....I would assume that packing would work in a similar fashion to insulation in the walls of your house. If you pack it too tight you lose R value which would simulate a denser material as in getting closer to a solid and not having the ability to absorb sound. I think that a loose packing would have more ability to accept and allow the exhaust to flow into it thereby allowing it to remove more noise. This is just my theory on it. It seems that denser would be better for sound proofing a wall in a home theater. Inside the muffler there are all of these little holes to allow the higher pressure exhaust to enter...the easier the exhaust can enter the better as opposed to having a dense fill and the exhaust cannot enter. I would think the Magnaflow would sound less raspy. When I get it I will give it a rap and a shake.

The muffler that I'm using above is a Magnaflow #14249.

The Magnaflow #14819 is a 5" x 8" oval, 14" long with a 4" double wall tip. I am basically using the tip from this #14819 and combining it with my #14249 which is an 18" version of the muffler used in the #14819.....So in the end, I will have a 5" x 8" oval, 18" long with a 4" double wall tip. I am using this to replace my brand new Tannabe Concept G Blue muffler that I will be cutting off and is for sale. Below is a link to a BMW M5 with dual Magnaflow #14815 which have a 2.5" inlet with 2 - 3" outlets in a 5" x 8" oval, 14" long, which should be a little louder than my set-up.....either way it sounds awesome!!!

I'm not an expert either.

I dont think the exhaust smoke getting in has any affect, its the sound wave/pulse that matters. Also when I say more densly packed, I dont mean so that the whole material inside is soo tight that it is compressed to be as hard as a rock. Sound deadening material types variations a side, a more densly packed muffler will quiet better than something poorly filled. The more the mass the better it will absorb the sound waves from bouncing out.

When I had the RRE stealth exhaust I was wondering why the Cobb was quieter. The RRE even had a considerably longer in length muffler and an extra very long resonator. The cobb's muffler was shorter in lenght but slightly wider though. I started tapping on the construction of the muffler and the RRE Magnaflow muffler felth empty inside, but the cobb felt like all vibrations caused by my knuckles were absorbed.

Another way to describe it is with a can of Coke or Pepsi. Cobb muffler was similar to knocking on a full unopened can, while the RRE magnaflow was similar to a half full opened can. I'm just assuming the outer shells where not much different in thickness etc...

But you might have good luck with yours. Let us know how it goes.

Oh and Pepsi is better than Coke.

Resonators seemed to only make a slight difference but mostly took care of the raspiness. It sounded ok, but my taste in exhausts have changed a lot. In my opinion a kick *** exhaust would be one where you dont hear any noise except the exhaust gasses rushing out of the muffler. Imagine a car accelerating and only thing you hear is the turbo sucking in the air from the engine bay, that is my exhaust heaven.

You know when you said double wall, for some reason i thought dual tip. I wonder how the Evo will look with dual tips??? It should be interesting....

I was looking at the vibrant mufflers in similar sizes, but I didn't like how their cans looked. Do you know where Cobb gets there mufflers from? And what did you think of those M5 clips??? I am hoping that either way the set-up I am changing to should sound quieter than the Tanabe muffler and at worst case I was thinking about adding a long resonator just after the cat delete pipe. What are your thoughts on this?
