4th to 5th grind?

I was on int 290 tonight and some ratty wannabe Silvia ( 240sx) was messing with me. To make a long story short, he got smoked really bad. At about 100mph I shifted into 5th gear and heard a nasty synchro grind. Any body else had this problem? I think I remember seeing this as a problem a month ago somewhere on here.

I don't get a grind in the usual sense (where you hear the gears grind). But every time that I shift into 5th I can feel that it is not going in smoothly - feels like something (syncro or baulk ring?) is grinding.

Well, I can try to take it to mitsu but, I have a warranty block. I was just trying to see if I was alone in this prob. I know they have to fix it if it is a known problem even with a block on the warranty.

I had the grind too. They just have a kit for the 5th gear grind and it seems to do the trick. It took them 2 weeks to get the parts from the Mitsu. wearhouse, then about 3 days to fix it.

The service manager said that about 1 in every 5 evo's have this problem.

beleive it or not I had the same bad grind going into 4th and 5th gear and after 2 days of beating the crap out the tranny on the track (roadcourse) it totally went away!!! I was ready to tear the tranny apart to see what was wrong. Something tells me that these trannys come very tight from the factory and all they need is some tough breakin-in. I have 6k miles now and she shifts beautiful!!

They should, I have exaust and intake, but no AFC. They fixed mine, just stay away from the dealerships you know are jerks about mods.

I had the same problem--it turned out to be the syncrho. I am getting my car back today after a week of repairs. The part is on back order so good luck. Also, make sure they check out your gears while they have the tranny taken apart. One of my gears was loose on the spline and was causing extra wear so they went ahead and fixed that as well.
