Wow man that sucks. Real sorry to see this. I would call one of the major shops tomorrow and see what your options are. Good luck.

The reason was cracked cylinder from over heating.

the cylinder head did not have any signs of water contamination at all. The water in the catch can lines puzzles me.

You should remember, the crown of the piston is much narrower than the skirt. I believe you measure piston to wall clearance from the skirt of the piston.

Buy a 3-4" micrometer and a bore guage and measure your pistons then your bore.

Was the engine overbored or are the pistons standard bore still?

Rocking the piston back and fourth doesn't show us anything. You need to pull one out and mic it, then mic the cylinder wall in a few places.

I remember back in the day when I was changing head gaskets on my mustang weekly, LOL.
In the summer i found some milkshake (oil/water mix) on my valve cover and the catch can. Also one of my fuel pumps failed and I didnt realize it. I thought I blew a head gasket from going lean so I took the heads off. But I came to find out it was just heavy condinsation and the head gaskets were fine. Bolted it right back together and game on!
