You check the resistor pack for problems?

Could that cause trouble with only one output of a single coil? I actually was unaware that there was a resistor pack!!

I don't have my service manual with me but i think the resistor pack near the ABS unit is for the fuel injectors. I'm just guessing if they go bad it will dump fuel .

Good luck btw.

Umm again I might not be right about this but your car might be running too rich... That sound I have heard it when the car is almost drowning because of gas. My Civic does the same thing on idle on rainy days because my air filter gets clogged with water (I know I know, dumb me), so it makes it go rich. Check your tune for that RPM range, check if its too rich...

Thanks for the info, this is my next place to check for sure!!

Anyone have any voltage or resistance testing info to do with a multimeter there?

I'll look for the service manual online later, i think I might have downloaded it once before even...

haha when I first read the title I didnt understand it. The only thing my friends subaru's got on me is that sexy boxer rumble. My external dump did help but i just love that distinctive subaru sound. anyway as for your situation i would think its your plug wire also however you said you checked it and it was fine...Did you replace it with some aftermarket wires because I have always heard bad things about non oem plug wires for some reason. I dont think its your coil pack because I feel like if that were at fault then you would have issues with cylinder 1 and 2. Try swapping new wires and see what that does for you. Im assuming your spark plug is gapped properly? It could also be your ecu. Honestly it seems like there are so many different variables so you like youve been doing just continue to rule things out. Good luck man and hopefully its something cheap.

lol thanks, yes at this point I've ruled out half the car LOL... plugs are definitly gapped right. I'm interested in the resistor pack idea, but have to wait till later on to take a look at that.

So you mean you had the #1 plug getting black and the other 3 lean? I'm working on it right now, the fuelinjector resistor bank has matching readings (6.3 ohm) on each lead.
