Stock Tranny Longevity ?
I got rid of my Evo III, but it had 78K, with 20K+ miles with 385whp.
I probably had 40 launches with the car. Trans was always good to me. Plenty of life left.
I think the magic # is around 500whp. Once you hit that, it is sure to cause some damage. But if you're not launching, it should last a long time, even with some added power.

ive been through 2 stock transmissions. Im only pushing 340whp. I drive it hard on the wknds and track it once a month(launched at the track of course). If you just "drive" your Evo the stocker will last a long time, but for those that actually launch and track it, it wont. Plus the stock synchros and internals aren't the best from he factory. Once i got my 3rd one built by Shep i havent had any issues and its put up w/ the abuse nicely. It shifts smoother than stock and i most importantly it got rid of my annoying 5th gear grind. One recommendation, is IF you decide to get it built, do it when your tranny is decent. It will only cost 800-900bucks plus shipping. I destroyed my output shaft and 3rd 4th gear set which added a significant amount... resulting in a 1600 rebuild. Which still wasnt that bad considering. Ive had 3 buddies get Shep rebuilds when they had no issues w/ the stockers and reported huge driveability improvements, making them well worth it.
