Talking ->Perfect weather, perfect shifting<-

The weather here in the Dallas, TX area is superb today. Because of that, the smoothness in my shifting has improved greatly....But whenever it's cold outside and I need to drive my Evo, the shifting feel is horrible. I even warm up my car for about 5-10 minutes before I start driving. I understand that the tranny fluid has to warm up before the shifting gets better, but still it's never the same as shifting when the weather is warmer. I even replace my tranny fluid often. It gets me frustrated very much when my shifting doesn't feel right. It's about 65 degrees out here where I live and the feel of shifting has been nothing short of outstanding. Does anybody or everybody experience the same thing as I do? Does this sort of experience happen with all manual transmission vehicles? Is there anything for me to do to help me solve my problem? Any advice and any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I've been wondering the same thing myself man. At first I thought it was my exedy single plate clutch, but now I'm wondering if the severe cold weather plays into it at all. I'm sure it does because my transmission HATES being shifted into 3rd or 4th with any power behind it. Granny shift and it's fine. try to heal toe a down shift, it clunks, try to up shift it clunks. Though once it's warm and if I shift REALLY fast it's fine. But theres no middle shifting ground.

just have to let the fluid warm up. Once it warms up it shifts like butter but then if the car gets really hot, then my shifter tends to act up a bit.

For me, it's really bad when shifting to and from the lower gears such as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Yeah that's true.....But the frustration continues for me even after the tranny fluid warms up.

I switched to BP Synchroshift II...shifts got much smoother. Still a little notchy when cold but much much better than before.

see i have no problem with my 2nd gear, its usually 3rd, sometimes 4th. I'm about to roll 24k miles which means I'll have my 30k stuff to do soon. I need to find a better transmission fluid

Switch out the fluids. I got completely locked out my my gears today. Finally got it in 3rd and then into reverse. I have some Redline MT90 coming in on the weekend. I'm sure it will help. I replaced transfer case fluid (OEM) and it seems a lot better. Seems to catch almost immediately. Which seems weird and unrelated...

my guess is its partly to do with my clutch or just crappy fluids. im hoping changing the fluids before the spring hits will help out. only time will tell. i just hope that if it is the clutch i switch to a twin disc before any real damage is done.

When the the weather is cooler, I have learned that letting the clutch out a little bit slower really helps with smoother shifting.

I just got an Exedy Twin HD installed, and sometimes it's not letting me shift into first. I contacted the shop that installed it, but could it be something related to the temperature outside? My gut reaction is that it isn't...because it was like 32 outside this morning and I had a little trouble, but in the afternoon it was in the 70's and I still had a few instances where it wouldn't get into gear.

A little off topic, but thoughts?

changing fluids helped a little for me but no matter what fluid i use 2nd gear is just impossible to get into without a clunk or grind.

If you think texas weather is bad, come to the east coast by the tri-state. Shifting in temperatures below freezing is painfullllll...lol but we learn to deal with it. Most of us try to warm our cars up at least 1-3 minutes but some times you just gotta get going. As for all trannys from other vehicles, i'd have to say yes. Happened in my prelude 5speed and happened to my brothers miata. Its not in operable or should i say optimum temperature. I just warm my car up for 1 minute and take it easy for the first couple of miles, then im good to go.
