->Perfect weather, perfect shifting<-
the 4g63 doesnt respond well when its cold, as do most engines. the same goes for the tranny. the oil is so thick and situated at the bottom. thats why the shifting feel sucks unless u warm up the car. i live up in nyc and its been 40 degrees or lower lately and i experience this all the time. i just get used to it haha
btw since my car is loud i get her going as soon as i start up. i just go real slow and never above 2k rpm

I just got an Exedy Twin HD installed, and sometimes it's not letting me shift into first. I contacted the shop that installed it, but could it be something related to the temperature outside? My gut reaction is that it isn't...because it was like 32 outside this morning and I had a little trouble, but in the afternoon it was in the 70's and I still had a few instances where it wouldn't get into gear.
A little off topic, but thoughts?

[If you think texas weather is bad, come to the east coast by the tri-state. Shifting in temperatures below freezing is painfullllll...lol but we learn to deal with it. Most of us try to warm our cars up at least 1-3 minutes but some times you just gotta get going. As for all trannys from other vehicles, i'd have to say yes. Happened in my prelude 5speed and happened to my brothers miata. Its not in operable or should i say optimum temperature. I just warm my car up for 1 minute and take it easy for the first couple of miles, then im good to go.

The Evo five speed is known for the shift problems compared to the rear wheel drive trans like the ones in the Subys.
Our trans uses wires/linkage, and can get knotchy for all the previous listed issues.
From 05, they started to use Teflon coated shift wires for smoother feel.
I have the 03, and it has similar issues especially when cold from dead stop.
I installed the Under hood shifter linkage bushing (aluminum), and it helped somewhat, especially with the positive feel. My next install is the shifter base surround bushing (poluurethane).

Interesting...what clutch do you use? I'm probably going to bring my car to the shop and see what they say, I'll get back to you with any news. I'm still breaking in the clutch...let's hope it goes away with a few more miles.
So I take it that what I experience is normal and we all just have to let the transmission fluid really warm up until we feel a positive difference. I now believe that it's just a manual transmission thing and I just have to work around it I guess.
FWIW here in sunny So Cal I experience the same shifting issue until the car has warmed up. I can't imagine you guys in snow dealing with this.
My 350Z did it too but it was nowhere near as bad as the Evo is. Even in 80-degree weather it's a problem until my temp gauge gets up halfway. Then things feel better.

my 1st and 2nd have the same problem in the cold chicago winters, but once it gets up to temp its pretty smooth. I will however wait till summer when the temp is high and see how it does, im sure it will be marginally better. Dont worry though cars are picky things!
