Fuel gauge inaccurate?

anyone else notice how inconsistent a evo fuel gauge is? Sometimes ill be going down the freeway and it says 1/4 tank, then i get off and sitting a light then bam its up to almost 1/2 tank again

also i usualy fill up around 1/4 tank. sometimes its 10-11 gallons other times is 8-9..

I think it depends on how you drive your car. Think of it as more of a "how long your fuel will last" rather than a "how much is in there" gauge. I tend to notice if I'm driving the **** out of my car for a while the needle will go down quite a bit, and once i'm back to cruising the needle goes up....

Well, you do use more gas when you floor it...

also sometimes doing something like parking uphill or somethin where all the fuel will slosh to the back of the tank can make the gauge mess up to

my car is playing tricks on me as well. i will be driving then let the car sit and it'll be at a 1/4 tank, wake up start the car and then it'll be below the E with the light on, but as I drive it'll climb back towards a quarter. and I am on a flat surface when I park.

mine always does that it drives me nuts, ill go do a drive and if i drive it hard and say the gas is at 1/2 tank, if i drive it hard and stay in higher rpms it stays close to 1/2 tank, but as soon as i sit in a parking lot to meet some one or sumthing and the car is idling it goes down to 1/4 tank in a about 10 mins then when i start it again it is at 1/2 tank again haha

I just ignore the fuel gauge and have done so since I bought my Evo new. I learned how many miles I can get out of the tank and just reset the trip meter whenever I fill up.
