Broke something in the front of my car tonight...wtf?

Ok I haven't gotten a chance to pull the wheels off and get under the car yet to check it out cause it is late and too dark out, anyways but here is what happend. Tonight I was running at the track and on my third pass at the end of the track I try to turn but notice my car isn't turning. I then hear a really loud Thunk in the front end and my steering wheel quickly pulls to the left.. I stop turn off the car knowing something is not right and look it over. The motor sounds fine no tranny noise or anything. So I start the car up and its hard to turn. I drive the car back to my trailer, car drives fine going straight but as soon as you turn the wheel there it is again a really loud and hard clunk coming from the front. Anyone know what this might be, I am hoping I only broke the bearings in my front axle because that is my guess. Axles are still intack and haven't fallen out, and I wouldn't think the car would drive all the way down the track or in a straight line perfect if I broke the front diff.

Anyone please help I won't be able to sleep untill I figure out what happend.

Maybe a broken control arm... The rack and pinion... Could be a number of things... Gotta get under and look...

In the old days, the chances of broken belt is highly suspected. But our new car only driven by one belt.

Just jack up the car and take a look.

If you break an aluminum control arm your gonna know what you hit. Its not just gonna happen. Plus it would be pretty obvious if you looked under the car.

I bet you did something to the rack and pinion or tie rod ball joint.

Your gonna have to put the car on jack stands, pull the front wheels off and check everything out.

When you have the car on the stands have someone go back and forth with the steering wheel while you check it out. See if anything is binding up or if anything looks out of the ordinary.

Thats the only thing I can think to do, from your description of the problem all anyone can do is guess.

Ok I have the car on the stand now.. the control arms are ok steering rack is ok. The axles have no play in them and do not shake or wobble when you turn the wheels. What I do notice is if I turn one fron wheel the other one doesn't move.. does that make any sense to anyone here? This really sux cause I allready know the dealer will be like we can tear it down but if there is any evidence of racing you will have to pay for it. So seems I will be making this repair myself.

Check your front differential. On front wheel drive car that I have when the differential is bad or broken do the same thing that you describe.
