Question AEM EMS Engine Management System

Does anyone have experience with the AEM EMS?? I got a couple of questions:

1) Is it emissions legal??
2) How easy is it to use??
3) Will it retain stock ECU control fuctions like A/C and others??

I'm using a GReddy e-Manage piggyback right now and I'm looking for something a little bit more powerful. The only reason I used a piggyback is cus I don't know if a standalone system would be street friendly.

I have it in my RX-7 and it's plug-n-play very easy to install. More power no problem. It's a must to use a wideband O2 like UEGO when fine tuning. As far as emmisions legal, as long as there's no CEL then you're fine. It can control everything you can imagine (traction control, boost/gear, nos, etc.). So keep your GReddy e-manage for now and get the AEM EMS when it's available. I know I am. Good luck.

Its a very cool system, but it is by no means plug-n-play...
(Im commenting on the system before the autotune update)

When I used it, the preset maps sucked...

You need someone who knows how to tune a vehicle properly to get your car driveable...not just fuel, because there are so many variables with the system. Its the best way to go if you can afford it, because unless you feel VERY competent you need a shop to help tune it. But forget CEL's...the system doesen't use your stock dummy lights. AC and your creature comforts are untouched....

So the only way I'd know if there's a problem I'll need to hook up a laptop to the EMS??

Can I also pass emissions with the EMS?? In Chicago we have the choice of the sniffer or a diagnostics test on the ECU. Wouldn't the EMS get picked up as a non - stock ECU? At least with a piggyback computer it can't be picked up.

Yes you need a laptop and AEM wouldn't sell a product if it's not over-engineered. With OBDII ecu, it's a pain in the a$$ and that's why there's alot of issues with cars that has it. With my RX-7, I waited for the well worth it AEM EMS instead of getting the Apexi PFC (which alot of FD owners did). Anyhow, it took time for them to get it right. So wait and don't worry there are more aftermarket parts will show up after SEMA. I suggest you go there before investing.

Why would the AMS have an adverse effect on emmissions? Its all how you tune... if your running a straight pipe at 20lb tuned rich your not going to pass. Throw a cat on, turn your boost and fuel down the day of emissions and you will

That's the race system. It'll work as well as the plug-n-play. NEEDS plenty of time.

WTF... why did you do that instead of moving the wires in the factory clips for the location needed. The 2nd gen eclipse has the same ecu plugs as the evo. Which aem makes a unit for. Seems you did it the hard way. Oh and QuantumEvo has an EMS in his evo 8.

The only member i know that has it is designmanfx. You might want to PM him and see what the deal is about it. I thought he said that South Florida Performance was driving his car to NOPI and tuning it on the way but I could be wrong.

Thats the AEM Race ECU... You can adapt the system to any vehicle as that picture illustrates... You just have to match up the corresponding wires and sensors. Although, its a major pain in the ****, but whoever did that probably has done it before many times... Makes it allittle bit easier
