I, for one, am not in complete agreement with the generalization that each and every Green turbo will exhibit tapering. Granted, the stock IX turbo is an established taper transgressor. The Green in unported form, will taper like a stock IX turbo as well.

A properly ported Green should not taper however. This is just from my personal experience. You can argue all you want, but my personal Green will hold 26.5 PSI all day long. I realize that several Gurus will argue contrary, but that's another story.

Experience has a funny way of creating the realization that every setup is different and will respond in a different manner, what data you have on your own personal car will not always be the status quo or the benchmark.

^^^^The voice of experience!^^^^

How true it is what you just said. I really shouldn't generalize from my own limited empirical observations either. Sometimes I wonder why the IX turbos in general tend to be more taper prone than the older VIII design.

The stock turbos taper less on the Evo 8 then they do on the Evo 9. A Evo 9 turbo on a Evo 8 will taper less than a Evo 9 turbo on a Evo 9, etc etc.

It doesn't mean it is making less power however. It seems the Evo 9 head with mivec is more efficient and flows more air so the turbo runs out of steam easier.

You will see the same thing with the BBK Full, FPgreen and FPred between the 8/9.

I've seen a FPred hold 32psi to 8200rpm on a Evo 8 where it struggles to hold 27psi on a Evo 9.

Again, every car/turbo/setup is different.

Here is one example

FPgreen with Forge HP WGA, Evo 9, Ported everything, E85, 42Xwhp on our Mustang:

We've actually had Forge hold better more ofter than not on the stock appearing turbos. There you go again thinking your car is the status quo.

Would you like me to send over a shovel or do you have one already?

I see this discussion going nowhere with no data so I will end my involvement now.

lol i didnt mean to start such a controversial thread.

Mellon says he is just going to up the timing to deal with the taper. Im happy with the tune and the turbo.
