Major tranny problem

Hey guys I bought this car last month and was told I needed to get a new clutch. In the process of them pulling apart the transmission there was some clamp they couldnt take off so they pulled the whole transmission and took it to a transmission shop. This guy has had my car for 3 days and could not get it apart. He said if he kept at it either the transmission was going to break or the transfer case was going to break. They think the transfer case is all effed up and somethin called the spider gears got wrapped around in there. I need my car back and even tho i dont have a ton of money i need this thing done right. Am I going to have to resort to taking this thing to the dealership and owe them a crapload of money? Any and all suggestions are gladly welcome I am not too savvy with what exactly is going on. I'm up in the Seattle area if anybody knows how I can get this fixed. Thanks much.

Sounds like you took it to the wrong guys. Why did you take it to the shop anyhow, did you notice the clutch slipping or something. If the mechanic you took it to doesn't work on Evo's he probably doesn't know what the hell he's doing. I'm not sure why your mechanic would be taking the transmission apart, all you're looking to do is get your clutch replaced. Personally I'd take it somewhere else, sounds like you've either got an inexperienced mechanic or one that's a crook

you have to pull the half shaft out before the transfer case will come away from the tranny.

yep lol....that little bugar likes to hide in there...slide hammer clamped to a 10mm bolt threded into the end of the half shaft will do the trick....that mechanic is an evo noob.

+1 you would fight that tranny all day to get the transfer case off if the half shafts are still in the tranny.

I took it in to this place just to get it checked out cuz i just bought it. dont know what a good or bad performance clutch is supposed to feel like and they said i need a new one. it was havin a tough time goin into first and a really tough time goin into reverse. to be honest i dont know what all has to come out to get to the clutch to replace it. apparently this part of the tranny does cuz thats how they found this.

I don't really understand what your saying. Are you saying you took the car in for a clutch and all of a sudden your transfer case needs to be replaced?

right ya thats what im sayin. and i dont know how all the **** is put together down there so idk how they got to this conclusion. somewhere along the way of getting to the clutch they had to get somethin called the stub shaft out and one of the clamps on it wouldnt come off?? sorry if that makes no sense but thats what i understood. and somethin about the spider gears gettin twisted around in there cuz a previous owner launched it too hard. maybe i needa do alot more research on what the hell is going on but these guys are talking to a place called english racing theyre a really well known place for evos but about 200 miles south of me

I think I would cut your losses and tow the car to a reputable shop. You mentioned English Racing - take it there. Do it man.
