19.5psi every gear all the way to redline, w/ no mods
19.5psi every gear all the way to redline, w/ no mods
The only mod I have on my car is an autometer boost gauge. Other then that, it is stock. For the most part I always run 94 gas. I installed my guage yesterday. When I floor it, I hit 19.5psi, in every gear and never drop off. At idle, it reads about 14 vac. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced no drop in boost with a stock evo?
Sounds like a mutant to me! Just the fact that it doesn't taper is really odd. Even if the boost gauge were slightly off, you would still see some kind of taper, just relative to the off-set boost index point.
No slight spiking then settling to a held number...just 19.5 psi?
Where is your gauge plumbed into?

My car arrived on the East Coast in May, I picked it up w/ 3.7 miles. It runs the way it did when I bought it. It has always pulled strong and consistent. It does read different psi when driving at different throttle speeds, like it should be reading. I have notice that if I lift my foot every so slightly, like less then a 1/16 of inch, that psi will drop, but when I floor it, I keep the pedal all the way to the ground.

I got ya beat. My car spikes to 21.5PSI and then holds 20PSI all the way to redline -- no mods.
And my boost gauge is definitaly accurate.

I'm beginning to think that Autometer gauges are not too reliable.
Either that or both of us have out of spec EVO's. My vacuum reads above 20 in/hg at idle and the most boost I get in any gear is 14psi. My boost does drop down a few psi as I get to redlne though. I tapped my mine at the same place as you. I also made a post about my problem, here it is: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=40461
I guess I'm the looser here...
Autometer Sport Comp Gauge. I spike 17-17.5psi and taper down to 15 psi. I tapped the line that goes from the intake manifold to the BOV. Using 93 octane.
I thought there was something wrong with my car and proceeded to do a boost leak test. I did not find any leaks in my piping. Following that, I made sure my gauge is reading correctly by teeing off and hooking up another guage. Used a pump to pressurize the lines. Both gauges had the same readings at various psi's so the gauge must be ok.
Finally, I used my Road Dyno to verify that I still get acceptable numbers. I did a few runs and got 238-239 @ the wheels using my road dyno.
So, I guess my car is ok. I wonder kind of power I'd put down with 19psi....

I will pay closer attention to my boost readings. It may be possible that my boost is hitting higher then 19.5 (possibly 20 or 20.5) It's sometimes hard to focus on the boost guage while also trying to watch your tach, while full throttle, with out going past redline especially .5 increments. I do know though that it does not drop below 19 at any point. (As longs as it is WOT obviously) My vacuum part of the gauge seems to be reading what most others have recorded. 14-15 at idle, as high as 20 when letting off gas at speed or downshifting. I've been doing some reading on these forums, and have noticed that the range of psi vary anywhere from 14 - 21.5 and anything in between. I would tend to guess that the factor solenoid might have a wide range of acceptable tolerance built specs coming from factory, resulting in the numerous different readings of different Evo owners. Or possibly the same could be said for the factory BOV. I've heard people say the factory one leaks, and other's say it holds fine. I don't know, I'm just speculating. I'm definitly not very knowledgeable about turbocharged cars, as this being my first. So I'm learning as I go, and I have learned a decent bit just from reading different posts on this forum. It has been very educational and helpful to me. Kudos to everyone that offers suggestions, and ideas on this board. All-in-all this is a great place to do research on the Evo.
