It's possible. I would get that fixed asap then see if the sound is still there. It may go away, and you don't have to try chasing a noise. g/l

Get the Beatrush rear differential mount bushing inserts and you'll be set! Cheap enough and 10 minute installation. Otherwise, if you want to go hardcore, get the Energy Suspension rear differential mounts; they're more solid but you will need to have the stock ones pressed out.

wow that made me laugh... ok back on topic, It has happened to me before also, I got scared but after some research here I found out evos do that when shifted hard/fast.... something to do with the driveshaft shaking and hitting something, but nothing harmful.... unless you really have something broken due to the bent trailing arm... get that arm and tire fxed first and then try again, if problem persist then it is normal, like I said before, it's a common thing with evos.

you really think its the differential moving around?...then how come no one so far has this problem? if its the diff moving then it should be common then right?

You know you can edit your post right? Just wondering cause you are posting like 1-2 mins apart.

uh... I think it is the driveshaft shaking hard when you shift like that, it could be the diff, or a combo of both, in any case I don't thing something is broke because you would hear it constantly and more like a grind, if you only hear it when shifting hard/fast and it sounds like someone kicked your fuel tank with a steel boot on, then it's normal, just shift slower/softer

You should hear a "plop" when you ****. If you're hearing a "thump" there probably isn't any water in the bowl.

Sorry, my entire office is laughing their asses off after I read this thread title out loud.

It was a funny typo man, definitely made my long day end on a good note.

Good luck with getting that control arm fixed though.
