I just put in an hks ssqv. Pain in the *** from the begining. Took 3 months just to get all the right parts to make it fit. Now i got it in there i went for a drive. The car doesn't pull half as hard as it use to. the power band is soo smooth it doesn't feel like the turbo is even working. i checked the piping, its a snug fit. 2 things though when i installed the vacume hose didn't go on as tight as on the stock one. Problem? second i think there may be a small kink in the inlet pipe. Could this be the cause of such huge power loss. Please let me know what you think.

What is your boost guage reading? Does it register any boost? I drive a 3000GT VR4 and my BOV was leaking until recently, and when it was leaking my boost would spike and then leak under WOT, and the turbo whine was much more audible because the turbos were spooling faster to make up for lost boost pressure. are you experiencing any of these thigns? Explain your situation more... hope i helped.

BTW kickass BOV... i am trying to find a cheap one, but it costs sooo much... might just run a greddy type-s closed loop, my replacement is gonna go any day now. anyway nice choice!!

Check all your connection and make sure that the BOV is adjusted correctly, it should open and close fairly quickly, you don't want long pshhhhh sounds just a simple fast release, there should be absolutely no change in the "feel" of the car, the BOV will simplely make a tighter seal underboost and release boost quicker then the stock BOV
you can defiently hear the turbine whine. It almost sounds like the engine is working really hard. and i can't really hear the blow off cause its recirculated. even though i should be able to i could hear the stock one fine. i'm going to try to fix the kink then secure the vacume hose and see what that does. The bov is pretty sweet only problem is you need a flange to attach it to the car which i didn't know about until after i bought it. so it was a pain in the *** trying to find one

i have the hks ssqv, and it's just fine. i am running it vta, though. i know that it runs a little rich, but the sound is awsome. that is true. it needs way too many other parts to make it work properly. doing some research, i think i'm going to sell the hks and get the forge bov instead. the forge has a better construction and fits the evo perfectly in the recirculate to intake model.

LOL! I have known plenty of Greddy Type S to leak on other cars. Not that any one is particularly better than another. Sometimes you just get a crappy one straight out of the box, regardless of the manufacturer.Originally posted by solarxclipse

Check your setting. Adjust the screw if necessary.
Check your vacuum line too. You did mention loose. HKS BOV vacuum inlet is smaller than the stock. My kit has a adapter/filter for proper mount. If this is not avail, zip tied the vacuum hose to prevent leaking.

so i still have no idea whats wrong. Has this happened to anyone else. I talked to someone and they said the HKS SSQV cannot leak because it has 2 pistons or springs something like that. I zip tied the vaccum hose but that didn't seem to help. Like i said theres no real pull anymore. I have no clue what to do. Someone else said they had the same problem but how did you fix it. It sounds like the turbos working hard but producing nothing. I checked all the connections and everything is tight. Any other suggestions before i rip the damn thing out and throw it down the toliet because the stock one actually made my car seem fast?

As a side note, I have the same BOV and while getting my car serviced about a week ago, one of the mechanics actually pulled out my SSQV and put both it and my stock valve (which I had with me) on a pressure tester, and the stock valve held absolutely PERFECTLY at 28psi, and putting the HKS at 28psi, it couldn't hold it. I witnessed this with my own eyes. I think I'm actually gonna be reinstalling my stock valve for now. For clarification, though, I've never noticed any power loss at all when using the SSQV, except the occasional bogging during stop-and-go traffic.

For now, it would seem, though maybe I just have an unusually strong stock valve since I've heard other people saying they've experienced leak with high boost. Either way, I'm sure there are better choices than the HKS unless going for the sound, but the bogging while VTA does exist and it gets old.

From what you are describing it actually sounds like the boost is leaking off. Possibly the valve is open, which will cause all the air post-turbo to return to the inlet side and it will just keep trying since there is no pressure it will not open the wastegate. This will cause the turbo to be noisier. IMO.
Are you sure the thing is closed when it is just sitting there. If you can take it off, test it to see that it is seating properly.
