Stock Evo 8 Little help

Hello:

I have a 2003 evo , 64k miles stock everything, I have noticed that my vehicle has lost power, I was using a Beltronics vector FX1 and i coulnt get the car to go from 0-60 under 6 secs and 1/4 mile under 14 sec, I have noticed a drop in performance since i put the NGKBP8ES spark plugs gaped at .025 maybe the vehicle needs a tune, I just dont want to take to a tuner and he just increases the air and fuel and charge me 600.00 dollars.

OPTIONS

1. Get it dynoed see where im sitting at.
2. Send it to a tuner and risk having check engine light and all sorts of hiccups.

The car a new clutch 3k miles on it, new coils and sparkplugs, new MAF sensor.

Please some advice will be great its me daily driver I dont race other than the regular highway stuff. Thank you in advance.

Put stock plugs back in and see if the power comes back. What prompted you to go to a colder heat range?

Who installed the MAF, coils and plugs? If it was the dealership, take it back and have them take a look at it. Did you reset your ecu at any point after installing the above mentioned parts? I don't know if it is necessary but I would have if I replaced those parts.

You don't have to spend $600 for a custom tune when you can spend half that much for a mail-in flash....there are cheaper alternatives out there with very reputable tuners...but...you are obviously against any sort of a tune by the way you worded your post.

Good luck.

Is is possible you didnt torque the plugs down properly and are loosing pressure. Take them out, inspect them, regap them and put them back in and torque appropriately.

If everything is stock (no MBC?), and you don't want to run the stock plugs, you should be running BPR7ES, not 8's. The 8's are a colder plug for higher boost.

Reason for the 8's was the iridium plugs the dealer installed would cut off when the booost would kick in ...thats the reason they installed the MAF and coils..they coulnt find the problem so they asked a tuner to help them out and he adviced them to install the 8's but since then I noticed a loss of power but it least it doesnt stall when boost kicks in....i feels like a lot of lack of performance.
If you guys think is the 8's ill go buy the 7's right now or should i get the iridiums? can iridiums be gapped?

If you've never flashed your ECU, you can reset it by simply disconnecting your battery, pump your break a few times to be sure there is no power left going to your ECU, and then reconnect the battery. This will cause it to reboot and recalibrate itself (could help a little since you replaced your MAF).

go to advanced pep boys or whatever autoparts store you have around tampa buy bpr7es spark plugs ngk tell them to do a part interchange lookup and order them they should only be like 2$ or less each and gap them to like .22-.24 and it should all be good, to reset ecu if it was never flashed unhook the battery and let it sit for a minute put the battery back on, you may have also gotten some bad gas if its only been happening for a while, in that case refill with some 93 or whatever the highest octane in tampa is, i havent been down south in forever

its also possible the car may have been tuned by whoever owned it before unless you had it since 03 and know for a fact it hasnt been if it has the actual maf scaling could have been changed and recalibrated, or if you took it to a dealership they may have put a stock map on it so now the car is not moving like it should do the plugs first thats cheapest

Ok update replaced plugs from BPR8ES to BPR7ES gapped at .023 disconnected the battery for the lenght of the Plug change, feels a little more responsive did some test runs new times are 0-60 in 5.6 secs and 1/4 mile in 13.8 ...IMO the numbers are in close range to stock numbers what do you guys think? BTW thank you all for the help.
