The lifters were dead quiet before the bigger cam's were put in, went from some smaller HKS cams to the BC 280's. ever since the install i have had a lifter tick constint at certain points when the car is not under load but still moving if you know what i mean. if its under any acceleration or steady throttle they are quiet. Any ideas? (They are solid lifters I THINK), They were in there when i did the cam install. Tried to colapse the head but did not want to go down....
-Why would they only do this frequently on light to no load? (not enough pressure bilt up?)(to much backlash on cams?)
-Is this hurting anything? (i dont belive so)
-Can they be shimmed?
-Should i go back to stock non solid lifters?
Guys please help me out im looking for positive answers i want to get this solved asap.

not positive but think they are hydraulic. If solid they would have to be adjustable.

or sludge restricting the orifice so not enough pressure getting through

how many miles on the vehicle? How clean is the engine inside? Assuming it's clean but if it's dirty, sludgy, run a qt. of motor oil conditioner (Bardhal) for a day or so (stay off boost) and then change the oil. Or you could remove them and try soaking and cleaning them. There's a service procedure for soaking them in diesel.
If the oil is clean, no sludge, you have a lifter going out. depending on mileage you may want to replace them all, if it's high miles.

the milage is 59k and the motor is pritty clean. there should be a check valve in the head of the lifter that you can push with a paper clip and then compress the head right? is there a service guide on how to condition them in the diesel fuel?
any other opinions?

EVO 9 intake cams (mivec) are breaking right and left. Your cams aren't one of these brands?
GSC, Kelford, and Cossi, these are the ones that are breaking.
they are brian crower 280's and its not a mivec head its an evo 8. Ill check the thread bumpp i read about half of it and got burned out, is there something you wanted me to see?

here's the lifter info.
First try bleeding them with engine revs. Start with warmed up engine, rev from idle to 3,000rpm evenly within 15secs. then let off quickly and let idle for 15secs.
Repeat this about 10 to 20 times until the noise hopefully goes away, slowly revving up to 3K then off quickly and idle.
If that doesn't work, clean and fill them with diesel (pics below) You can substitute motor oil for the last step.
The trick is to watch for air bubbles as your bleeding, no more air bubbles, you're finished bleeding.
if they compress or leak when filled they're bad, if they're solid they're good
they could also have a slow leak and be leaking down over time

You have aftermarket solid lifters in your car, not the stock lash type?? If so, you need to put the stock ones back in... but with any big cam, this lifter tick is very common.. I switched to JAM Non Tick Upgraded lifters and haven't had a problem since.. they are stock lash style as well..

I have JAM lifters with Kelford 272s and they tick when engine is cold. Then it goes away .
Put stock ones , but make sure you bleed them or clean them in Diesel, if they are really dirty
