Apexi Power Intake

I did a search on this subject and looked through every relevant thread but have yet to find a definitive answer. I'm strongly considering the Apexi Power Intake as it seems to provide a great combination of power gains and actual filtering ability. However, it seems like the design isn't 100% compatible with the MAF and may cause lean spots due to different air turbulence patterns. My question is, quite simply, can this be fixed with an appropriate tune? Thanks in advance.

I have the Apexi Power intake on my car without any issues. I'm waiting to install my wideband and boost controller to get my car tuned.

The design is 100% compatible. It gives you a MAF adapter that bolts right on to it and the filter. You shouldn't be worried about lean spots from air turbulence patterns, the whole thing is a lot more free-flowing, so it's getting a lot more air than before regardless of turbulence patterns. You will need a tune to take advantage of this mod. It will sound cool though...

This was the first part I got for my evo in 06. I regret it. I ended up later buying the Vibrant MAF adapter from Lancershop for like $20, and a $40-50 K&N.

I have the Apexi intake and have not had any issues with lean spots. From studies it has show to have good flow as well as very good filtering capabilities.

same - it's quieter than my k&n though - but I think it makes less power.. but way way way better filtering

Why did you regret the purchase?

The Apexi power intake is like $140. Vibrant adapter is $19, then a fat (4.5" I think) K&N was no more than $40 or 50. better stuff for cheaper. I regret wasting the money on the Apexi.

Both of you look up the filter shootout test that was done a few months ago. The K&N didn't perform like you think they would. The Apexi didn't show the highest peak numbers either, but IMO the intake made better power and torque through the powerband than most of them tested. Thats why I bought it.

I bought the perrin and have had no problems (knock on wood that I do).
Perrin is a great piece and it makes your DV sound like a VTA BOV if your into that whoosh.

I was seriously considering the Perrin but I really don't want to go with an oiled unit. I've heard far too many stories about problems with the MAF being contaminated.

Looks like the Apexi gives the best powerband, but the Amsoil made better peak HP numbers. Of course, the car was tuned for the Buschur intake, so those results might not mean much *sigh*

Peak numbers aren't everything. The test was a good test, but I would've liked to see them all tuned for each intake personally. Either way, you can't go wrong with the Apexi filter IMO. Plus, with the extra tuning that powerband should only get better IMO.

I had the Apexi on my car when I had the Green, No problems what so ever. I switched to the Perrin with my Red setup but now I regret doing the switch. So I have an Apexi unit on it's way to me right now as I type.
