I discovered this bolt was loose and leaking... [HUGE IMAGE]

Sorry for the size and resolution, best I could get with my phone in the dark.

I am honestly not car saavy at all. I love to drive the evo but when it comes to working on it, I am still a complete noob. Not afraid to admit it.

What I discovered was that this bolt was leaking and there wasn't very much left to leak out..

I am wondering what I need to do now to make sure it's resolved. What fluid do I get, where does it go, and how to I make sure this stays tight?

That looks like the fill plug for the trans or transfer case. Take a farther away pic. If the plug is vertical its a fill plug, if it horizontal its a drain plug. If its a fill plug just top it off with fluid. If its a drain make damn sure the trans or t-case is full.

that looks like the drain plug to something drive-train related. Use a 24mm socket or wrench and turn that bolt to the right. If its in the front of the car, by the driver; then its the tranny. If its towards the front; passenger, then its the tc. If its in the rear, its the diff.

Sorry I meant to post this in the Evo 1-9 General forums...

This is on the underside of an Evo IX MR. It's as far away as I can get, all I've got is a phone camera and that was me laying on my back holding the camera beside the ground.

Sorry if I caused confusion.

I think that's the transfer case due to the fins. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR! T-cases are known to grenade when they're low on fluid.

Its the T-Case drain bolt. You can see the copper colored cover on the top of the picture.

When you say there wasn't much left to leak out had you taken it all the way out..?
If not much fluid came out you need to go get some fluid. Mitsubishi Diaqueen is the only thing to run in the IX T-Case. You can get it from Mitsu and some performance shops.

remember the fluid in there only needs to be filled right up to the hole or till it just starts to leak out of that there hole. I can't remember the torque spec for that bolt off hand but it is not that much maybe 25ftlbs.

Thats the fill plug. Make sure the fluid is full and tighten the plug up.

That looks like the Transfer Case drain plug to me. Do not drive the car until you fill the trans back up with Diaqueen.

Thats deff a drain plug not the fill plug like some people here are saying. The fill plug is a 17mm and thats a 24mm. The torque spec for the drain plug is 23ft pounds.
