I was at 400 no problems, car has 37000 miles, now I dont know power wise just did a ton, prob well over 500 but have not really ran it hard yet, I run shock proof light and heavy in the Tranny and T case. So far car is doing great with it.

I guess i c it as if ur gonna swap to a 5 speed why even get the MR but that's just my opinion. I'm at 24K but I'm still stock, even clutch and no problems, but I'm saving up for the 6 speed rebuild if necessary. From what I've been told 400 should b good but wen u start moving into 500+ the chances start growin and the way u drive it will also speed up the process. As long as you keep the trans nice cool and clean u should be able to get good life out of it.

That's what I heard too. I am going to do some thinking and save up some money and figure out where I will go from there I guess.

Somebody like Adrewtech needs to start selling gears for the 6 spd with a stronger and taller 4th. Maybe a straight cut 4th. That would still leave 3rd for in town and 5th and 6th for the highway.

well actually the accord was being driven by my girlfriend. i used to autocross/road race it before i bought the EVO. sadly though, the Accord is no longer in the stable. my gf was in an accident, and the accord was totalled. i picked up a 2004 Acura TSX for her to hold her over until she gets out of school. then she wants a 370Z

i've got a thread in show and shine with pics of my car, the new car, and the Mrs.

I find myself in 4th most of the time cruising around on city streets. The turbo spools up quick enough that I usually don't need to grab 3rd to accelerate for normal driving. I think 3rd gear rpms are just a little too high and subsequently the engine is too twitchy for daily driving. For spirited driving I would agree with you but I think most of us bought the MR because it is a good balance between performance and comfort. What gear do the rest of you guys usually cruise around in?

I'm making mid 400whp and I'm fine with 20,*** on the setup. Works great, I besat it up quite a bit. I launch every so ofen and its okay. I honestly don't think launching it will hurt anything. The MR 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and thicker and stronger then the 5 speeds. Just 4th gear thats the real problem. Its thinner so all 6 gears could be fit into the casing.

I plan on making 600+ this summer, so I will be upgrading. For now though, I love the way this tranny is. Shifts perfect everytime, nice for cruising, ect.

I think that the 6 spd is so nice that it is just going to take to one tranny shop to make some gears for it and it will the go to transmission. If we could just get a 4th gear that is capable of 130 mph at about 8,00rpm that would sufficient for most people.

I have a stock 6 speed in my MR running 513whp & 434wtq, no problems with the tranny the car has the power for 10's hopfully we can achieve that this weekend if we make it out to the track. My car is pretty much a drag only car I'll let you guy's know how everything holds up I'm one of those willing to push it to the limits so we'll see hehe.

And to those wondering what kinda of clutch i'm using it's the Quarter Master Twin Disk

Red face

Its pretty common sense! If you want 500whp+ you shouldn't really rely on any tranny in my opinion especially on a car that has a tranny designed to handle 250 whp or so. As it seems if your running over 450 spend the cash and get a rebuild or a swap. Why go cheap on a tranny if you got a serious motor putting down some good numbers? I would say 400 is not a problem but if you beat on its gonna beat on the wallet. It aggravates me when people say the tranny is weak cause there running 500+ and there tranny blew after a hard launch. Think about how much stress your putting on that tranny and drivetrain? The 5speed is obviously stronger we all know that.

But arent the gears cramped together in the same case as the 5speed.. The gears are thinner thats what makes them weaker.

I don't know the specifics, but in the Subaru's the 5 spd is really weak and they replace the gears with higher quality gears. They use helical or straight cut. They are then nearly indestructable.

I know someone with an MR who has less then 400hp and needed the tranny rebuilt 2x already. I think the he drives more agressively then I do though.

Is there anyway to beef up my tranny? I can't find any 6sp gear mods. Do any of you have 400hp on the stock clutch with no gear problems?

From one MR owner to anther what is your opinion?
