Question Loss Of Power

Ok so for some general info firstly i am not at all mechanically inclined. I bought my Evo 8 with 52k miles on her and now shes at about 54k. I just took the longest trip so far which was about 250 miles total and now she runs like crap and im at a total loss. Ive lost alot of lower rpm power and if i get on it i mostly just get revving high rpms with not alot of power behind it. the turbo still spools and i can get goin but again alot more rpms than i should be getting at the speeds. i shift at 3k regaurdless when im just drivin around so i have a good feel on where it should be and its way less power and way higher rpms. Also i have no check engine light and a burnt smell when i drive as i check under the hood its definatly coming from there not the tires. I hope thats enough info for someone to help me and i appreciate any input.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping.

Your clutch just took a dump. Time to upgrade. Btw, the easy way to confirm is to get on the highway in 4th at a low rpm---like 2k or 2500, push in the clutch while you're rolling, rev the motor, let out the clutch and step on the gas. If the revs don't drop quickly or just stay high, it's definitely your clutch. Sorry for the bad news.

probably more a sign of the wear than what's causing the wear. i'm sure if anything was sticking or malfunctioning, it will get spotted when you replace the thing. make sure you have a reputable shop do the work.

Have you tried putting the car in 5th at about 40 mph and stepping on the gas? If the revs just shoot up, the clutch is gone. You might also get a nice burning smell...

:UPDATE: 5th gear at 40 step on it test that was reccomended shot rpms up but i didnt speed up by like 10 mph and slowly. 4th gear at 2500 rpm push clutch rev and release then step on it ended me up in the red line area. a few other things like i drive at 4th gear 40mph and i step on the gas and i only get rpms loooong before i get any kind of response and my most recent finding is i can be sitting idle in first gear and car wont die same with second gear no break no clutch just chillin, so im guessing that you were all right with the clutch taking a dump and so obviously i need a new one but how long can i drive on this (extremly humiliating getting honked at by old people cause ur car doesnt go) before i end up pushing her home?

When i have a clutch slipping i park the car until i fix it. I would hate to get stranded with a big tow bill. I'd recommend addressing your problem right now. Good luck!

This is the same problem I am having right now. I can't get no power, only rpm with no power. The only time the car move is when then turbo kicks in. This suck. Just bought my car too. I think this is my problem too. I smell burning smell from the bay.
