DSM 1/2g Cam gears on evo 8??? marks r in different locations
Just needed to know if the 1/2g cams gears will fit on an Evo 8 head??? Well I know they fit on the cams, but the timiing marks on the gears are in different locations. For timing, the 1/2g marks point to each other, and on the Evo's both marks line up with the valve cover... I hope someone can help......
they all have the same tooth count, but the timing marks themselves are different. I sold my HKS gears, and I have some stock 1/2g ones, and want to use these instead of buy stock evo ones.....
The gears would physically work, yes. But you'd have to make your own timing marks which may be a PITA. As you stated, the timing marks are lined up and different locations on the dsm vs. evo.
If you look at a set of Fidanza cam gears, they are interchangeable from DSM and EVO, but the EVO cam locating dowel is positioned about 1/4 turn left of the DSM locating hole.

Here's one of my pics for reference.

All I could recommend is having both cam gears and measuring and marking the difference. People have done similar things before with using one 4g63 gear and one 4g64 gear when building a 2.4l.
Its up to you, but overall imo its probably easier to pick up a set of stock evo gears or a set of Fidanza's.
