Lifespan of a tubular manifold

Let me start by saying I will not mention the name of the company unless the refuse to warranty thier product. To make it simple I bought a brand new turbo kit from a big name company about a year ago. The manifold has been installed on my car for about one year and has maybe at most 12,000 daily driven miles on it. for the last few monthes i started to see a serious decline in my power. i figured it was just a boost leak so i pulled the turbo kit to refresh some gaskets and found about a 3 inch crack where the welds meet on the base of the manifold. my question is should a manifold from said company crack this quickly? i spent over 3 grand of this kit and i'm a little upset that in much less than a years time this manifold came apart. thanks in advance for any opinions.

tubular manifolds are a wear item and will not last forever like log manifolds.
i would love to know what campany the manifold is from. If its a big company i'm sure they will warrantee it.

the kit that's on my evo has been rock solid (Except for the coating flaking off), for about.. 55000 miles. Properly supported, there shouldn't be much issue with a tubular manifold that has been welded with the correct process for the material used.

You should have called said company before starting this thread. Now member above^ just called them out for you.

Any reputable company would warranty a header after one year of use...just call them.

Same thing happened to me. If one were to fabricate support brackets such as the ones on the stock exhaust manifold it would probably be much better.

Most of the "big-name" tubular manifold companies have a very good warranty program. As I recall, Ron Shearer has a "lifetime" warranty on his manifolds.

Like the other poster mentioned, it would have been better form to just call the company privately and ask them to solve your problem. You'd have saved yourself time and effort, and in all likelihood had a good outcome to share with us from a company that stands behind the occasional problem that crops up with any production made part....

AMS, Shearer, ETS, and Full-Race all carry a lifetime warranty on their manifolds and manufacturing.

My SV ETS kit is flawless I need to get the mani coated here eventually but it fit perfect, and makes some great power. Things happen man get in touch with them they'll get you fixed up 100%

from ETS website. Why even start a thread like this? when all you had to do is call ETS

"As with all of our products, this kit carries a lifetime warranty that is happily honored in the case that there is ever any issue. We build for quality and almost never have a warranty issue, which is why we can offer such comprehensive coverage on your purchases at ETS."

My intention wasn't to call out any company and I apologize that some one felt the need to post ets.
I have not even called the company who is the maker of the manifold yet and I will not say who it was.
All I was asking was the average life span of a tubular manifold and peopl assume right away.
I am sure when I call the company they will handle it. I'm not trying to flame anyone and if that's how it
Appears I will have this thread removed..

Don't tell that to my friend that is currently running my old setup where I put 10k on it and he has put probably 40k on it.

A thick wall tubular manifold welded correctly and matched to a downpipe with a flex joint is not a wear item and will last a very long time. The biggest mistake I see though is hanging the wastegate off a 3" long tube. The longer tube give the gate good leverage on the HAZ and will eventually cause failure from stress corrosion cracking and Stress fatigue cracking. Keep the gates close to the manifold and it solves that problem.

Should have called the company first though.

As far as life span is concerned it really depends on the manifold, how its made, how its supported and how its being used. We have a limited lifetime warranty on our headers. We rarely ever have an issue but if one does pop up and the customer has the kit installed like it was meant to be we will warranty it. I think I can count on one hand how many issues we have had and most were sourced from second hand kits where the customer did not use the supplied turbo support bracket. Our Time attack car ran the same kit for three years...hell its STILL running it in the Caribbean and it has never had an issue. There are not many evo's out there that are taking a beating like that car is.

I called the company and they took care of it as I expected they would. They had a life time warranty on the original owner.
Again this wasn't to flame anyone just trying to get a feel if I should expect the same from the manifold in a year.
