Very weird problem....any help appreciated!!
Very weird problem....any help appreciated!!
Ok not sure if i'm unlucky enough to have 2 separate problems at the same time or if both problems are related.
-My Evo 8 has about 68k on it.....car has light mods.
Just last October my car starting sputtering really hard when im WOT. Thought it would go away but it keeps happening. The wierd part is that when im cruising at high speeds or WOT my coolant temp shoots to HOT instantly, and then drops back down to normal when slowing down.
- I had a greddy profec boost controller in my car, swapped it out for a forge unos....problem still there.
- I had my actuator checked and its working fine, but the little rod sticking out of the actuator is stiff. Is it possible to move that actuator rod with your hand? Or does it need alot of pressure to get it to move.
-A mechanic i went to derived that the problem must be coming from where that rod in the actuator is connected. Against the bottom section of the exhaust manifold.
the car has been running fine for 6 months although the problem still comes up, the car is still drivable. The sputtering feels like a loss of power and the car shutters. Funny thing is that the car does this when its warming up, after a good long WOT pull the problem goes away until the next time i turn on the car and take it out, but the coolant gauge STILL shoots to HOT. This is a very wierd problem i know, but i am trying to pull as many resources as possible to find out what it could be.
- any help or advice from the EvoM community would be greatful.
I love my Evo, dont want it to go anywhere...lol
Thank you

i'd be really careful... i had a similar problem with the stutter at WOT... now i have a hole the size of an orange in my block... still unsure of the exact cause in my case... cuz when it blew i was only at about 4k in third not WOT... leaning towards bad tune... or possibly a malfunctioning MBC.... but the new engine starts goin in monday
i never had problems with the coolant temp tho

A Blown Head Gasket will not produce these sort of effects
The car would blow blue smoke out it's tail pipe if he had a blow head gasket.
Check your coolant reservoir, if the fluid is brownish in color and feels oily your HG is leaking.

idk about that the temp is going up...seems like a sign to me its hard to pinpoint things on evos it could be a variety of things like the temp sensor and bad sparkplugs causing both you never know
Not totally true, I lifted the head and this was the first thing that happened. Temps shot up and lowered almost immediately. Id do a compression test, then check temp sensor.
