Mishimoto intake worth trying
Mishimoto intake worth trying
Has anyone ever seen this in person or have it? Prices have dropped to $200 for the intake so now it seems reasonable; especially if no cutting/mod is required like with others (HKS Kansai).
"Mishimoto’s carbon fiber intake systems – the most innovative performance-driven products on the market – can replace any OEM intake system. Made of aerospace-quality carbon Kevlar, four-layer cotton, and an aluminum mesh high-flow air filter, Mishimoto carbon fiber intakes will revolutionize the way your engine obtains air. The unique flared shape of the hand-laid carbon fiber portion will draw in more cold air than traditional cold air intake systems. Mishimoto intakes are a direct OEM replacement – no cutting, welding or other fabrication needed – and will provide a substantial horsepower and torque increase that every driver will appreciate.

The only dyno sheet I could find was an install on a Fit but that one doesn't seem to shield the filter from the engine heat.

I mostly want an intake box that keeps the filter shielded and would prefer something that fits without making modifications to either the car or the intake.
I've emailed Mishimoto for some info and will post when I get it.
OT - When you quote is it best to input my comments before or after the quoted text? In this case I did before.

I agree it looks like a nice product but I can't find anyone who has installed it nor can I find any pictures of it installed.
Keeps us updated or post some pictures should you decide to get one.

does this include a new intake pipe? i havent seen any pictures of this installed on an evo.
update: on their site it says it has a carbon fiber intake pipe so it seems to be a complete set. http://www.mishimoto.com/mitsubishi-...er-intake.html
if i didn't have an intake system yet i would definitely try this.

I've had this intake for almost a year now. It protects the filter from the heat really well, tested in texas summer last year with no problems. My data logs did not show any increase in intake temps over the moded OEM box(side cut out). I also netted about 8-10whp increase accross the powerband.
Installation was a pain though...had to change location of the crash sensor and remove all the OEM filterbox mount. The snorkel did not fit well and had to cut one side to clear the radiator cap. A lot of finageling to get it to align correctly. I have to periodicaly check the radiator hose as the snorkel wants to sit on it... but it works great.
