Exclamation 4th and 5th gear problems?

has anyone else with a 5 speed tranny had real bad grinding issues with 4th and 5th gear? my 4th gear grinds terribly goin into 4th gear and 5th gear, it grinds particularly bad when its warm, and when i downshift into 4th evn with revmatching and full clutch disengagement it grinds so bad! but when the tranny is cold it doesnt grind at all really. When its warm 4th always grinds, but 5th only grinds at high rpms. i need some advice please! thank you

What kind of miles and what kind of driving do you do?

I would wager that the trans is in need of a rebuild as most evo 8 transmissions have engagement issues whish was supposed to be corrected in the 9 trans.

Give TRE a call.

Yep, common problem on 03 and 04 evos. Yank the tranny out and freshen everything with recent part numbers. Synchros, synchro springs, maybe hubs, hub sliders, and also maybe your shift forks. The parts inside the trannies have been superceded a few times with better parts. So you should be good after a rebuild! Good luck with everything!

ill admit that its been driven hard, but its always had a small 4th and 5th gear problem at high rpms since i bought it n 05 with 24000 miles on it and now its only got 64000 miles on it. and the most recent 20000 miles has been when it started getn worse. i dont have any leaks that i can see at all.

03 evo 8 , 52000 miles on my tranny no issues whatsoever.

Put in some fresh tranny fluid and pray that alleviates your issues. If not tranny rebuild.

Man you don't want the 6 spd if you plan to do any hard driving they are more finicky than the GSR transmissions. And have tendencies to break 4th gear. There are alot of MR owners including myself that have the 5spds now because the 6spds destroyed itself. I would recommend removing your trans if you have the tools to do so and send it up to shep trans, or have someone else do it for you. You'll LOVE your transmission when you get it back!
