Mods to get an Evo to 360/370BHP?
Mods to get an Evo to 360/370BHP?
Hi,
Posted a topic relating to this in "General" section, but dunno if I'll get a quicker response in here.....
A summary anyways:
Currently own a stg3 Esc Cos, saw an Evo4 at local garage today with a claimed 360ish BHP from dealer, test driving it this coming Tues, strongly thinking about getting it, what's involved in getting an Evo4 upto 360BHP and and there any tips/advice etc any of you guys have as I don't know much about the Evo.
Cheers

There are multiple different routes to go. It could be something as minimal as a turbo upgrade to something internal such as cams, cam gears turbo back exhaust and some type of engine management just to start.
Cheers for reply....
The car has a full s/s exhaust and a HKS B/O/V fitted like......
So you can fit a bigger/stronger turbo and you get 360BHP - easy at that?
What boost would an Evo need 2 run 2 produce 360BHP? A std turbo couldn't produce that power right? Different ECU needed? Std internals ok at this power?
Cheers

You saw an Evo 4 that was 360 stock HP?
I am pretty syre you mean an Evo 8, and you are probably talking about the FQ-300 model. It is actually more around 300 horsepower at the crank, possibly more like 310 or maybe 320 on a good day.
They have HKS super dragger exhaust, HKS intercooler pipes, and a remapped ECU. These are the only power adders that the car has on it and it brings the power up from 270 at the crank to 300 at the crank.

Evo 4 was made back in 1996. This post was from this year.
There just needs to be some clarification here.

Just some info.
Of course, fuel tuning and upgraded intake/exhaust plumbing is needed for this power level.

Hello,
Definate mix up here....
When I said "360bhp from the dealer" I meant the blokey/salesman/dealer guy who works in the garage who is selling the car.....said to me it was 360bhp. Obviously, the car is modified and not standard, but he wasn't sure of what mods had been done to the car because his partner was away for a week and he got the Evo in. Hence, why I asked here what mods you would need "to get" an Evo4 upto 360bhp from std spec....
Soz if my English punctuation mis-lead you.....
lol

I would think, from my seemingly limited research:
1) turboback exhaust, cat delete or high-flow cat
2) intake
3) boost controller (run, say, 20.5psi) and an AF controller (or a tunable EMS like XEDE or AEM or something along those lines)
4) cams (could you roll w/ HKS 264's? probably)
5) FMIC upgrade with piping
6) fuel pump / injectors
7) 94+ ron+mon/2 octane fuel (US octane ratings btw, translates to about 100 octane using RON-only methods of measurement, i.e. Europe)
8) exhaust manifold
Even still I'm not sure this would put you at 360whp, but it'll be up there for sure. I think proper tuning is really the key, and tuning it WITH these mods would be the only way to go (i.e. not before, heh).

isn't 360 bhp (brake horse power) about 300ish whp (wheel horse power)?
if so, it shouldn't be that hard to achieve without swapping out cams, or the stock intercooler/turbo combo.
there are plenty of US based tuners that are reporting 25% power gains with little more then tuning, aftermarket exhaust, and some form of engine management.
edit: isn't brake HP the same as flyweel HP?

The old tired line.. "I don't know it was taken in by someone else who isn't here" should put up a flag for you as it seems it has....Turbo upgrades require other tuning to accomodate the higher boost produced. I would look at the things you can see like the intake set up, exhaust plumbing, and the injectors to see if these systems can support the kind of pwr output he is telling you is there. You can also do what I always do and that is go for a ride and make him SHOW you some performance. Evos are not slow out of the box but that kind of extra power will blow you away.

Try close to 400 or a few over. No car can run low 12's , weigh 3400 lbs with less than 400hp. BY the way im talking about 340 whp on an awd dyno.

Why don't I correct you and say that your car's race weight isn't EXACTLY 3400 lbs, since we are being nit-picky.
Ah, sorry......Long day and I am on edge. Maybe I should just go molest some more farm animals.
