does the stock diverter valve protect the turbo against compressor surge?

how can you tell if it is working properly

my 03 evo8 sounds like it has a BOV it has a psshh noise when i let off the throttle but i no it doesnt have a BOV just the stock diverter just making sure you should hear it when it is working properly

ok my guess is, if you dont have a aftermarket intake then your dv is on backwards!!

it is the plastic one. I was reading some other threads and people mentioned that when you have a cone filter which my car has you will hear the stock diverter valve make a distinct psht tt tt tt sounds between shifts etc.

doest that sound right?

well since you said that you have an aftermarket cone filter intake then hearing your stock dv is normal. If you post a pic we will be able to tell you if it is installed correctly fyi.

 

They recirculate or VTA boost pressure while the throttle body closes

Sorry for making it seem like I was giving him the wrong advice. Wastegates were created for a reason. Hope you fix your problems and cheers.
